The UK is in a mess partly because the MP,s are claiming so much for expenses for their second homes.....if you or I worked out of town , and bought another house...would we get expenses for it , would we get money to buy a telly , would we get paid to buy a plug for the bath or sink ????? the easy answer is no ....we would have to pay out of our wages.....they should do the same....stop all the expenses nonsense.....we will all be better off....( except the MP,s.........papa.

OK - so MPs have to have a base in the constituency they represent.
And they have to attend Parliament.
They cannot be in two places at once.
So they should be made to declare one place as their residence, and if it's not in London, they should have a room in a 'dormitory' owned by the Government for when they cannot be at home.
They should also have to produce receipts for all travel, which should be by the most efficient means available.
There should be a parliamentary department to deal solely with this - they are supposed to be accountable to the taxpayer.

So far as I am aware, in England, money had to be invented so the government didn't get swamped with mountains of carrots

HI, They should also travel by public transport, set an example for everyone else.
They should also have a pay cut as they are a public service, and nearly every other public service is cut back on.
I agree with you, I think the government should buy flats in areas that politicians have to stay overnight, and they should be charged rent. This will work out cheaper in the long run.
Or better still, they could start giving people who travel from home to work, tax decuctions.
What surprised me, was that politicians don't sign in and out, of the building where meetings are held, I thought this was a requirement underneath the health and safety law. What happens if there is a fire, how will it be known if there are people left in the building? Firemen and any other rescue service, could risk/lose their life trying to rescue someone who is not there.

So that IF your 'party' gets in, you won't expect them to tell Parliament what to do?
