No, you couldn't. You could go to the site she linked, and from there you could click another link, and *that* took you to a place where you could buy stuff.

It's completely within ebid's rules, as I have clarified many times. I have checked this in great detail with ebid, and links from links are perfectly legal.

I really don't want to get into this again since it usually turns nasty, but since it's you I'll risk it.

But that's it: links to ecommerce enabled sites are banned. Links to sites that link elsewhere are not.

Anybody who doesn't agree is welcome to raise the point with ebid or do whatever they wish, but I'm going to put the kettle on.

That's appalling news. They are now extending their objections and removing links themselves, in direct contravention of everything they've ever said in official communications on the subject.

    This needs serious thinking about...

No need at all! Plus... they've just moved the goal-posts in a major way. Your summary above was absolutely spot-on for everything they've ever said, right up until they edited somebody's post this morning. I'm horrified, frankly.

Wait a week, it'll appear in the charity shops!

I've emailed ebid for clarification of this implied change in policy (or, as I hope, mistake!)

As the first words on the linked web page are, "Open for Business - Please come in," it does give the impression that it's all one site. Mark maybe didn't realise that link took you to a different website.

Even if he did, it think this one is a bit of a grey area and, if it was up to me, I would have pulled the link anyway.
