Hi, this is the guidance note from the prohibited items list: -
Clothing advertised as used, dirty, soiled, or unwashed
As far as I am aware you can sell second-hand items such as coats, shoes, skirts and baby clothes etc but the items must be clean. Used underwear including swimsuits and cloth nappies should not be listed, neither should smelly (soiled) slippers etc. If something is stained and you wouldn't wear it in that condition then you shouldn't be selling it.
My opinion only and someone else will be along to add theirs.
Good luck with your listings.
Yep, this one comes up regularly - the warning is there to stop the kinky stuff like used undies. Used, clean, clothing of the harmless second-hand shirts and skirts sort is fine.

I appreciate your advise. I would never list anything, clothes or anything else, if I wouldn't buy it myself. I have a lot of very good condition 'preowned' clothes... they just don't fit anymore! I would really like to list them here instead of on ebay.
I think the general guidance refers to "next to skin" used clothing - i.e. clothing that would not normally be seen when worn - this refers both to underwear, and to less obvious items like socks and stocking, which although they might be seen when worn, are classified as "personal undergarments".
It seems to be that external clothing - including skin-contact clothing like shirts and trousers etc - are OK to sell dependent upon their condition and hygiene-state.
I'd say, just use common sense and some sensibility, and it'll be OK. But for definitive guidance, email support@ebid.net

Just an addition, a few months ago I asked ebid to rule on question of listing vintage or antique clothing that has NOT been cleaned. Because each buyer/collector has their own special cleaning methods for these specialized items, sellers do not want to risk of using the wrong method and ruining the garment.
Ebid indicated that this policy applies to used, modern clothing, especially children's items, and that vintage items did NOT have to be freshly cleaned. Of course seller must always list condition in the listing (i.e. storage smudging, needs dry cleaning to remove small spots) so there are no surprises.
They also suggested that anyone listing clothing, vintage or not, should avoid the use of the words DIRTY or DIRT because it will target the listing for compliance, etc. Use other terms such as smudging, etc.
Thank you!
