On Eb'y, I used to pack at 4pm every week day.
Just in case of last minute sales.
So early morning is not a problem,
although I must concede 6am would be better.

'Ebid elastic time' - what a wonderful phrase!! And so true.
I do my packing about 4pm so that I can hopefully still honour the 'same day posting' aim for any late orders. I don't print anything off, I must admit; so I am totally at the mercy of Ebid's availability.....

I, too, used to have a 4pm cut off, but noticed that I could "just quickly do" that one that would come in at 1 minute to 4. Then my son would get in from school and start talking to me and it was a mad rush to get to the PO to catch the 4.45pm pick up.
3pm is my cut off now - anything after that goes with tomorrows post, sorry! Dog gets his casual walk and then a run across the field on the way home, son gets full attention after school, most customers get next day delivery - eveyones happy
Anyone who does not keep their own records and relies on the vagaries of the net is not really running a business in a businesslike manner. Maintaining records is an essential requirement, and either printing the information or copying it to ones own PC is just plain common sense as far as I can see.
I maintain a spreadsheet and all the pertinent information gets placed there as soon as I am aware of a sale. If ebid were to go offline for a week I could still meet my customers expectations as soon as I am paid.

I have all sales records, and all stock records, safely stored away on my own computer, backed up, and quite a lot of it in paper copies too... that doesn't mean that taking the system away on a Monday morning isn't a daft idea. The earth didn't crash into the sun. My business didn't collapse in shreds about my ears. But it was inconvenient. It would have been less inconvenient if they hadn't announced a start time and then ignored it, likewise with the duration. I don't think pointing out that ebid chose a bad time, and then performed badly in not keeping to their timetable is unreasonable. It certainly doesn't make those of us who object to such poor performance *less* professional than others.
I didn't say that I didn't agree Monday morning wasn't a good time, just trying to make the point that people need to be responsible for their own records, not entrust them implicitly to a third party. I agree picking a different time would be better, though for someone it is always going to be the wrong time.
