Thread: Who's got snow

The snow here is causing lots of problems, my work mate came to pick me up at 04:50 this morning, about 30 yards down the road he got stuck and couldnt move his car. He rung the police (not 999) and they told him to leave the car and go home even though it was blocking the road off!

He stayed with his car while I attempted to go in my car, went one way and lorries had got stuck going up a steep hill blocking of the road so turned around and tried a different route only to find the same problem again so I tried yet another route and cars were sliding down the hill backwards, so turned around and went home for coffee!

My mate was still stuck and with the help of neighbours we managed to get his car to the side of the road and set off again in my car, tried various different routes only to find the main road to Peterborough (where I work) at a standstill with queues of traffic, so again turned around to try yet another route and found that a gritter lorry had got stuck on a roundabout blocking that way! I then headed into a town called Thrapston where I was flagged down and told not to bother carrying on as traffic was at a standstill with traffic unable to get up the hill.

At 8:45, I gave up and went home and had to dig my mates car out of the snow again.

So all in all a good day, but what amazed me was how stupid some people drove by just pulling out of junctions without stopping, overtaking queues of moving traffic plus more.

More snow today to go on top of the stuff we had already had, not been out of the house since last Saturday. I am getting what I think is known as cabin fever - completely wracked off. The place is just one sheet of ice, main roads are clear, but I have what is normally a five minute walk to get there.

As I've had a hip replacement if I go out and fall on the ice I would probably dislocate it. So since Monday I have been on annual leave, unfortunately more snow expectected and today is the last day of annual leave so it will be unpaid leave.

Still that is the cheap option, if I got taxis there and back it would wipe out a day a bit's wages. And it is better than being in hospital.

No snow here at Heathrow apart from a few corners left of Monday's snow which the sun has not reached. Hope you can get back to work soon Lofty.

Hello everyone. Maybe it's global warming or something else. Our weather here has been totally weird. Went from 40 below to 10 above in a day. Usually we have a chinook where it warms up for a day or 2 then back to cold. The warm weather is now on it's third week and holding. Well warm for our area at this time of year. Our snow is disappearing fast.

Thanks, just out will do! Although the time is not being wasted, I have plenty of stuff to do connected with this place.
