Thread: HTML in listing - Question - Background

    Default HTML in listing - Question - Background

    Hi All, first I should introduce myself. I’m Jim, and I am an EX Greed-Bay member. I spent the last six year at the OTHER auction site getting more and more frustrated by the day with all the jerking around of both buyers and sellers. I have moved here in hopes that Ebid will grow and seriously kick some auction butt.

    I recently signed up with a new seller+ account and I am attempting to get setup here. For the past few days I’ve been trying to get things to look the way I want and so far I’ve had good luck with a few exceptions.

    I'm trying to set up a template I built to use for listing my auctions. Once I get past the template I can get rolling but I am having a problem…..

    This is a link to my first attempt on Ebid.

    http://us.nine.ebid.net/perl/auction...265&mo=auction

    There is supposed to be a peace dollar background on the listing.

    If you look at my TEST.HTML template here….

    http://www.care4pc.com/ebid/test.html

    You can see the background in my test, when I list the auction there is no peace dollar background. I have tried adding the "<" background ">" tag in various places and nothing I do seems to get me to correct results. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Is this tag even allowed in the listing?

    Hello Jim,

    I will not attempt to try and answer your question, but I want to say that I like the example without the background better. I understand how we sometimes feel like the more bells and wistles we use in our listings, the better they will do, but the simpler listing without the morgan dollar background looks more appealing to me.
    Just my 2cents:-)

    Try changing
    Code:
    <body background="http://www.care4pc.com/ebid/peacedollar_bgk150x150.jpg" bgcolor="#ffffff" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">
    To
    Code:
    <div background="http://www.care4pc.com/ebid/peacedollar_bgk150x150.jpg" bgcolor="#ffffff" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">
    don't forget to change the closing </body> to </div>
    You don't need to put the head & body tags in your listing, the entire description is enclosed in a <div> as it is only part of eBid's page.

    Thank you very much for the tips. The fix appears to have been to place the entire auction in a table and just add the Table attribute background= " " within the table container tag. If you would like to see what it looks like here is the one auction I've been tinkering with.....

    http://us.nine.ebid.net/perl/auction...369&mo=auction

    I will play around with this one for a little before I finalize it. I'm sort kinda maybe leaning with JonnyGoods thought of leaving the background out all together. When ever I lament over something like this I find it best to walk away and come back in a day and see if I like it or not. Again thanks so much for the help it is very appreciated
