Thanks to you and others for suggestions. I'll keep watching for more ideas and make a choice later.

Not giving the wrong impression at all...we know you are IT literate

For simple accounts I prefer simple programmes....but thats just me.
So just pointed out for anyone else reading this thread that it is easy to use.

I was a Finance Officer before I retired and used Sage for everything from accounts to forward planning etc. . Its one of those programmes that you either love or hate...I personally hated it.

I used this...Easy Cash manager. You can create as few or as many categories of expenses or sales as you like... it's free and it can't get any more simple!!

I use Quicken for home accounts (unfortunately they no longer produce it for UK, but it still does the job) and Sage for Business accounts. I did a basic City and Guilds college course on it last year, but still make the odd mistake. Once you know how to correct your mistakes its no problem. End of year accounts done in 10 minutes.

I'm not happy doing money matters on the computer!

When I had to do quite large charity accounts and submit them, I found that the 'Simplex' series of account books were extremely useful - they come in weekly or monthly, VAT or non-VAT and explain everything along the way in a very simple fashion.

They are available from most good stationers.

    .
That's the most likely outcome, but I fancied a change and wanted to see what other people use. My copy of Quicken has developed a few "quirks" over the years; I've been very interested in the suggestions and have appreciated everybody's ideas. Still looking around...
