Default BBC Drops Crufts from Schedule

Apparently crufts is still happening, just not being shown on BBC this year.

do you think ITV will take it up?

What a shame! A much better solution, surely, would have been to include plenty of coverage about the issues that have caused the rift?

A friend of mine used to go to crufts to show her terriers, & its awful what she used to tell me, the people who show their dogs are really nasty & biatchy. If they think that someones dog is gonna win & the regs will loose then they make it their business t o stop that dog from winning by cutting its hair or something even worst.
The things she used to tell me, you couldnt leave your pet alone for one second, let alone your kids if you took them with you.

There was a satirical film called "Best in Show" by the same people who did Spinal Tap, all about Crufts types dog awards. It a good chuckle if you get shance to see it

Is it BBC dropping Crufts or Crufts dropping BBC?
What I heard was that BBC asked for certain breeds/categories to be excluded, because they cause suffering to the dogs and Crufts won't do it.

That sound more realistic to me.
Some of the traits that have been bread into dogs are beyond belief

Call me old fashioned, but I like a dog that looks like a dog. Not one of those poor animals with a squashed face or legs that don't even reach the ground

Totally agree - your reply set out the reasons why I have not watched Crufts since the first time I sat through it years ago when I was still of an age that I didnt realise what went on there

Best news I have heard today.
Crufts is not for dogs it is for the owners and breeders.
Let a dog be a dog.
The best dog show is Scruffs.
This is for the mongrels and whatnots.
    They are the best dogs.

BBC are only following suit after the RSPCA withdrew their support:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7616591.stm

Followed not long after by the main sponsor of the freak show:

As a nation of so-called animal lovers why do we feel the need to continue in a practice of inbreeding just to create "show" dogs with myriad genetic defects?

There are plenty of abandoned dogs in shelters up and down the country who would give us the "best in owner" trophy every hour of every day if they were only given the chance...

So true. I am not a dog owner and wouldn't want the bind/responsibilities that come with it. I don't want to feel obliged to take a dog for a walk on a wet miserable day, but some of the nicest dogs I've come across are abandoned and/or mongrels that have found loving caring homes.
