    Yes. But looking at various sources the currency of Northern Ireland is GBP (hence no difference) and the IEP is obsolete and no longer legal tender

    Maybe an old chequebook? I use mine very little now as I use a card most of the time.

    It is probably to notify the people in the bank as to which currency is needed Sterling or Euros. I presume that most of the Irish cheques are processed in Ireland.
