No one should hand out their bank details to just anyone (even a seller on here), it's way too easy to get robbed.
I am security conscious and take bacs as a payment option, if anyone then uses these details to set up false direct debits, then it is down to the bank as they have not done enough security checks and the bank HAS TO reimburse the funds that have been taken without your consent.

I am more than willing to pay sellers by bacs if they are happy to accept it, but the main thing should be the sellers choice to either accept a payment option or not to accept a payment option.

No matter what way you pay there is always the possibility of being ripped off as a seller, but gladly there are more great buyers than there are bad fraudulent buyers.

Because there are times when I don't want to put yet more money on my credit card (via Paypal ) and it's much quicker than going to my local Post Office for a postal order or sending a personal cheque which, by the way, displays exactly the same information as you warn against revealing, but adds extra by including my bank's address and my signature .

Oh ...... and there are no fees involved

I pay most of my YDC debts via bank transfer, and I haven't yet absconded to Bermuda with anybody's life savings. My own life savings would probably stretch to Bogna.

As far as I am aware, with the exception of Western Union and the like, there are no banned payment processes on eBid. I've not used alertpay myself, but plan to sign up with them when I get my bank account sorted out. I have heard good things about them on powersellersunite.com

For a bank transfer, you only need account number and sort code. And, most importantly, a good method to pay and receive payment because you don't have someone like PayPal, PPPay or Google Checkout taking a slice of your profit margins. I've actually been considering allowing payments to be made to me by bank transfer. So you can see why a bank transfer is more appleaing to me as a seller, it's free.

Plus it's another method of payment that is useful because I do have customers that do not have PayPal or PPPay or Google Checkout accounts etc and prefer to pay by cheque or postal order, and who would mostly likely prefer to pay by bank transfer if I decided to allow it. Plus those customers have credit/bedit cards with one bank or another, which I'll be able to accept direct payments from them in the future once I have things set up with my bank. Not all customers want to sign up to services like PayPal etc. If I had the choice between PayPal and a bank transfer, I'd rather have the bank transfer as it will cost nothing, no one taking a slice from my profit on that sale/transaction. And it clears in the same time as a debit/credit card payment, if not quicker, if your bank is set up to do bank transfers within two hours like mine is.

I have used BACS as a payment system both as a buyerand seller. It one on the safest forms of payment that i know of and as Darth Reaper has just said, neither Paypal, PPpay or any of the rest get a cut.
BACS(Bank transfer)payment method, has absolutely nothing to do with wire transfer. Wire transfers use western union. Never, ever, use wire transfer, you can say by, by to your money.

If you are outside the UK paying a UK seller or vice versa. It would probably be wiser to use Paypal, PPpay or similar.

I'm thinking I will start allowing bank transfers, especially in the run up to Christmas. Some customers do not want to register their card/bank details with third parties like PayPal etc and would rather pay me directly via their debit/credit card or bank transfer.

However, I've noticed that on the listing, I can select the payment method for BACS/Bank Transfer, but surely I need to put in my business account number and sort code somewhere? But can't find anything or anywhere to insert them. I've been puzzled and stumped now, as I'm not sure if ticking the box to allow BACS is enough!? Or does a customer have to contact me to get my account numbder and sort code? eBid's help section just confuses me even more lol!

So anyway, Paintinglemonjane, if you check this thread again, can you advise me on the BACS set up and what I have to do besides ticking the box lol! Thank you )

You'll send the bank details to the customer concerned.
