Hi,
Thank you for asking. I will give my opinion on how to integrate the existing categories. With the least disruption.
Here are your current comics categories:
Artwork
CGC
DC
Dark Horse
Graphic Novel
Image
Manga
Marvel
Other
Signed
UK
Comics in these five are all thoroughly Modern, so they could become subcategories of Modern without argument:
Dark Horse
Graphic Novel
Image
Manga
WWE Wrestling
These rest could probably remain as their own categories with no harm:
Artwork
CGC
DC
Marvel
Other
Signed
UK
This isn't ideal. There are signed books, UKs, CGCs, DCs, and Marvels from all comic ages. So listers would have to decide whether to use these legacy categories. You can get lots opinions on this. (And probably will.) But the cleanest and quickest solution is probably to just leave them as their own categories. At least it would get the comics migration to eBid going.
I also suggest it would be good to attach the years to the names of the ages, to prevent misunderstandings. The year ranges are not too controversial. i.e.
Platinum Age (Before 1938)
Golden Age (1938-1955)
Silver Age (1956-1969)
Bronze Age (1970-1983)
Copper Age (1984-1991)
Modern Age (After 1991)
All that said, the best and boldest business idea would be to simply add most of eBay's high level comics categories and then give yourselves big high fives! To wit:
International Editions
Platinum Age (1897-1937)
Golden Age (1938-55)
Silver Age (1956-69)
Bronze Age (1970-83)
Copper Age (1984-1991)
Modern Age (1992-Now)

Maybe it is. But should we not give kazatgvtcdotcom full credit as a person who quite obviously knows his genre inside out and therefore has the relevant experience to advise on the required selling categories? If ebid is to grow, and take full advantage of feepays mistakes, it has to provide sellers with the correct set of 'tools'.
My brother used to collect comics and trying to get him to part with them particularly when he hasn't touched them in over a decade (!) is proving difficult but I'm sure having the more detailed sub-categories would help should I be able to persuade him! After all, there are LOTS of comics to be had in one category (my poor parents' house is overfilled!), so breaking it down even more would only help to manage this.
