I see from your about page that you are in the consumer rights Information business, am I therefore to assume that you are looking for a way to market e-information in volume, and looking for a way around the ban on this sort of thing on eBid.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, and misjudging you, but I see no real information about you as a seller on your AboutMe page and also note that you haven't even dipped a toe in the water by listing anything at all, neither bought anything on here either, so if you were really interested in eBid becoming an alternative, you may wish to consider those points.

Here's one - http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=107887 - a quite trivial but very useful request by mapesdhs to be able to set the end time of auctions, many respondents disregarded his idea as unnecessary and unworkable, some were even quite rude about it, but anyone who knows about programming knows that it would be extremely simple to implement, like the basic API that is being requested here, yet there are people here too saying that it's of no importance, and yet again it's the people who would not use it that are against it where as others who would use it think it's a great idea.

Oh yes, I do remember that thread. Though I don't recall it being a matter of course that this happens. And the guy who was the OP there over-reacted a bit I thought. But yes, I understand what you mean now thanks, even if I don't entirely agree.

How do you get more buyers if there isn't stuff for sale in the first place?

    1.1 million listings means nothing.

When I come here as a buyer of spark plugs what do I find today?

5 listings in the car section on eBid.

On ebay there are 2,658 such listings in their car section.

Having an API might help to even that out a bit.

It's a real shame that things degenerate so easily.

I stand by my original opinion: if this site wants to grow, it must provide an API. If it doesn't do so, it will not grow. The longer it delays in providing this, the longer it will stay small.

It's not my place to pass moral judgement on big vs. small companies or the relative merits of hobbiest vs. professional venues, but I will feel free to state my opinion on this -- namely, my business can't use this venue without an API. For all the businesses that can operate without this feature, that's great, so much the better for them. I can't.

This is "information only" -- I just hope that adding my voice to the list of people who have been asking for this feature, might help a little in the feature actually becoming available one day.

I can see where you are coming from with that observation.

The number of listings is always exactly equal to the unsold items.

The sell through rate is the only figure that matters to me

    Now Now kiddies play nice
All suggestions I feel have there merit and place here in the forums and many differant points of view are welcome here.
Lets not have this place get like the Feepay forums where its the good against the bad guys
I would say to the original poster.. Please forward your idea to EBID direct using the addy given above. They are very friendly and helpful and will no doubt be able to clarify the matter for you. Also if you have the ability to supply such a programme I'm sure the guys would be pleased of such an offer and would be happy to give you the info you require to get you started.
The guys are afterall busy trying to keep things running and dont often have the time to scout through the forums so please use the direct approach and I'm sure they will give it the attention that it merits
