As most of my customers choose ordinary mail, which gives no insurance cover; I round up my prices and put the extra to one side to cover any losses.

I have kept my postage to a minimum as when the buyer does receive the parcel they look at what you have actually paid. So that is one thing I am really diligent about

I have kept all my prices the same as on the other side as they sold quite happily there

Surely if the item gets lost in post the seller wont lose out because you can claim for up to 32.00 from Royal Mail.
If selling a book for 4.00 you get a book of 1st class stamps worth 4.32
And i have never had a problem claiming apart from the time it takes .

Just wondering ... where exactly does your husband have his head in bed that would enable you to drop a book on it? ???

Beats staring at the ceiling I suppose

There is a plus side to high postage charges. I've just bought an item over on t'other side that had a relatively high postage cost of £4.20 - similar items I've bid on had a £2 (ish) charge.
But I always got outbid on the others round about the nine quid mark, this one I just got at the starting price of £2.99. I'm sure it was the high postage that put others off.

But generally I don't agree with excessive postage charges, and have seen quite a few on here - particularly in the book section - and like others have said it is simply not necessary on Ebid.

For anyone who has not come across it, the PO website is useful for finding information about postage charges and the different levels of compensation attached to each. The site also has a Business Customers section, which, amongst other things, has an eB-y section.

If it's of interest I do not charge anything for handling, offer calculated shipping with multiple shipping options (so the buyer can compare costs), combine purchases to discount shipping, and if you buy a few items, will probably even ship for FREE! Just trying to turn over my existing inventory!

I've seen many threads on eBoy discussing sleazy sellers who start listins very low, like 99 cents, and charge $10.00 for shipping. This is called eBoy fee evasion as their final value fee would therefore be low even if they are making a big profit on the sale since they definitely wouldn't spend $10.00 on shipping.
