Nobody is suggesting it is your fault. It is simply a matter of taking any reasonable steps to find a simple solution. If the mail service has tried to deliver to you, and you were not there to receive it, what would they do? Is there a depot it would go back to? Do you not see that is this is so, it is simple for you to ask them if they have it and to redeliver? If you do not know how your local post service works, then you cannot do anything, but it is not unreasonable to ask you to perform a simple task to locate something that has gone missing at your end of the deal if you are able to do so.

If the item cannot be located, then the seller should refund you. It is only being suggested that you help with the process of trying to locate it, as you are the person on the spot.

As for getting your money back: was the seller a business or an individual? What refund and returns policy was stated on the listing? How good is the seller's feedback? How did you pay? There are many variables which will affect how hard or easy it is for you to get a refund, and we can't really know that for you.

If the item is lost, you *should* be refunded... but life can be more complicated than that. Good luck!

Yea thanks. I've given the shipping address as my office address and if it comes i would be here for whole day long. So the chance of a miss like that is 100% not possible. .

Dude i know how the post office works. But i don't know whom to contact as this is an international post. As this is by USPS i din't get hold of any of the contact numbers locally.

The seller is an individual , but he has started a store now. He had stated as no refunds and returns in the listing. I'd payed thru Google checkout.

If the seller is an individual rather than a business (for example, I'm just one person, but I'm registered as a business) that's bad news for your rights. As a consumer buying from a business seller you get far more protection in law. Worth remembering when choosing sellers in future. The fact that this seller, as an individual (the existence of the store is not relevant to the legal standing) explicitly stated no refunds or returns is also bad news. To be honest, I wouldn't buy from anybody saying such things, but I appreciate it's a bit late to say that now!

I'm afraid I don't know what protection Google Payments offers, I've only used it once so far and had no problems. I would suggest you visit their help pages and look for advice on what to do there; I think it's your only hope.

Sorry I can't help more, or offer something more positive or encouraging, but do try Google. And let us know how you get on.

Hi, I also think it maybe a good idea for you to contact the post office; it would be the Indian postal service you would contact.

I have sent packages to Barbados in the past and the UK Royal Mail can only track them to the airport, once it gets there it is out of their hands, being passed to customs, then the airline. When it reaches India and is out of customs it then becomes responsibility of the Indian postal service.

The reason I suggest that you contact the post office is that as a native of India you would not have problems communicating with the people; whereas the seller probably can't speak which ever language you use, and may come into contact with people who can't speak English. Also there is the time difference to take into account.

As for the delivery time quoted by USPS that can all go out of the window if customs take an interest in your package, as they are a law unto themselves.

    Good Luck

Regardless of what happened along the way, your seller is always responsible for getting the item you purchased to you and in the same condition as advertised.

    That said....

1.) Did your seller provide you with a Delivery Confirmation number? If not, request it! Then enter that number here. You should be able to determine where it was last seen. If not contact the USPS, tell them you would like to put a trace on your package. For a trace to be done it has to have been AT LEAST 2 weeks since the package was mailed. After placing a trace on the package and it being at least 3 weeks (but as much as 6 weeks), they will consider the package lost.

2.) If you paid with a credit card through PayPal then you can start an INR complaint with PayPal and/or contact your credit card company to initiate a chargeback. This is all assuming it has been at least 3 weeks, your seller has not or will not provide you with a legitimate tracking number, or refuses to communicate with you.

    Hope this helps!

ok.. I'll try my maximum to get in touch with the post over here.

I'd purchased thru Google checkout and hence is there any chance of getting a refund as you have said for paypal.

    thanks for your inputs

The seller has done his part and got the parcel to your end. With the parcel being at a known destination and being held up by your customs he has no further duty to you. It is legally the buyers duty to know his own customs, no seller is expected to know the customs of the whole world.
Perhaps the best that you can expect is customs will allow you to pay the postage back to the seller? If so you must ask the seller if he will refund on the return of the goods but do not expect to receive a refund for your postage.
It has been a bad experience for you and we hope your next is better. I strongly suggest checking your country's regulations before buying from abroad again.
    Better luck next time.
