    Default How do you cleans Silver?

    I have a lovely old oak biscuit barrel with an EPNS lid and handle - but the silver plate is in poor condition

    what the best way to clean it up?

    ciggy ash and a bit of water but don`t rub hard and avoid the markings as much as possible

    Silvo no good? If the silver plating is coming off then there's probably nothing you can do about that.

    If you mean the silver plate is worn away to reveal the base metal then are the silver parts removable? If so then you can get them replated.

    I has some done a while back and it was not that expensive. I took the items to a local jeweller and they sent them away to be done. The plater reported back before they did the job that some of the items did not have the intrinsic value to justify the cost of the work but as they had sentimental value to me I gave the go ahead. I was pleased with the result.
