Thread: concerns from PS,input please forum admin

Default concerns from PS,input please forum admin

I havee just been talking to another PS on the theifbay, he raises quite a valid concern,
With the current no listings fees 49.99 he is worried that the system would get abused and become a catalogue for sellers ie he would be able to pay 49.9 and list 1million books for very little cost which would then flood at least the book section but I guess any other part could get flooded aswell, I could quite easily put the whole catalogue from my suppliers on here aswell which would exceed 30k items.
this would be madness but wha is stopping people?is there a "fair use policy" ie 1000 max listing per person on the 49.99 and then charge usual listing fees after that?
    Cheers guys.

Hello, why would listing all your stock be madness??? as I am sure it will increase items avalible and your sales??, plus if someone did list 1million books as long as they followed the rules and each book was diffrent this would be great for book buyers and sellers as it would increase traffic.

    what do others think.

the more that is listed the more choice for the buyer

as it was I use to have 4,000 items "elsewhere" I didnt see a post from a PS saying we should limit listings there, nor did I see a "fair use policy" there.... are you afraid we will get bigger than "elsewhere"

As long as you can supply the books that you have listed and do not break eBid's listing rules as seen here http://uk.ebid.net/help_selling.php#28 item 29 then there is no reason why you do not list and would not be madness as you say.
What limits a lot of sellers, including myself is time not stock.

Your friends argument would be more relevant to Amazon are there is an example of 1p book flooding the market, again no fees to list and it does not seem to bother or hinder their business or seem unacceptable to their sellers.
Go ahead and list and give potential buyers more of a choice than there is at the moment.

well if they want to sell items for 1p and not over inflate postage bring them here , i would be interested in 1p books as even at the bootsales they sell for mostly 50p upto £5.00 if i can get what i`m interested in then 1p and good shipping prices i`ll take any day

My only fear is seeing this become a landing spot for those who would list oodles of catalog items with inflated pricing and postage because it's "free" to do so. Yes, they will get few if any sales that way, but the perception they leave to someone casually searching/browsing would not be positive.

Hi all its not something that I had thought about but was a concern that a PS over there mentioned I can see his reasoning but then I suppose he was more worried about competition, he does not want to join due to it being "free".
I have only posted what he posted,I wouldnt post everything available to me as I dont stock everything and as it goes I only use auctions as an extra as it is not my main income,My income is labour not parts.

I can't see his reasoning after all the market place survives on different sellers selling same or like items at same or like prices, people deal with the seller they prefer. Like ASDA Sainsburys etc. Sometimes some will run a lower priced item as a lost leader and some will work it as a sale, while others sell at the normal prices. If your friends argument that he does not list because it is free was to hold credibility then AMAZON would never have got of the ground. Nor would have LOOT classified ads etc etc.
If you wait till all the traffic lights are green you will never go any where.
Seems to me your friend wants to have it easy by paying eBay to do the hardest bit for him (generating traffic) and paying them for the privilage therefore it is no point in them complaining about increases in fees there as that's the price you pay for having a higher profile.

Seems a silly reason not to join to me. Competition is a good thing! Getting in now while the price is low seems prudent and is a very-good value proposition imho. eBid is an up-and-comer! , but...will not compete with theifbays traffic anytime soon. Steady progress is being made however!!

Also, I hope you did not take my prior comment to imply you (or your fellow PS) would flood listings with inflated pricing as that was not my intent.

    Cheers

no offence taken as I didnt read any into it, too thick skinned for that I have dropped ebay like a stone I was toying with ebid for months but couldnt make my mind up(got to paypal 4-5 times just didnt hit pay)then with all the new stuff I was swayed more but it was the account suspension that finally did it, oh and getting told to shut up and listen by customer services lol
