Thread: Adding a picture to an existing auction

  1. #1

Default Adding a picture to an existing auction

I have lots of auctions running that don't have pics. This isn't because I'm trying to avoid the FVF, I'm happy to pay that, it's just because I don't often get access to a scanner.

The lack of this facility makes me list fewer items -- I often put things on one side "I'll list that later when I can do a pic" and then months later I discover I forgot to list.

It would be so handy if I could visit a pic-less auction, click on a link "Add photo" and go to the upload page.

    Pretty please?

If you store your photos somewhere else on the web - either your own site or a picture hosting site - you can add a picture to any auction just by editing that auction and inserting the relevant code. I suspect though, that you are talking about adding a Gallery image which is a different kettle of pixels entirely.

Yes, sorry, I should have made that clearer, but your guess is correct.

I'm familiar with how to add pics within the auction itself, but I'm guessing that having a gallery pic can make a significant difference to the number of viewings?

I for one normally don't bother with auctions that don't have them. I know there are quite a lot of others who do the same.

The only thing I can suggest is to list them anyway without gallery pix although 2nd best, but it would make you "get round to it" a lot sooner so adding a photo would be more of a priority and then all you do is close listing and relist adding the gallery picture

Thanks Alm, that's helpful right now, but it would be so much easier if my suggestion could be acted on. And I doubt it's a difficult thing to implement (though I have to acknowledge that's it's always easier be the guy to imagine something than to be the unfortunate infantryman who has to implement it!).

Or instead do you think there's anyone up for writing a Firefox plugin to do the close and relist? Might be a bit dicey if the site gets redesigned though?
