    Default postage not known problem

I've just had someone buy an item and pay for it when I had not specified postage to the US. So the item is marked paid and I can't send an invoice and the buyer thinks he got a bargain. I can't post the item for the price let alone make anything. Please can the system be changed so that "postage not known" prevents the buyer from paying until invoiced?

I've refunded and invoiced this buyer through paypal but I'm on the back foot here, having to apologise for something I didn't do!

That's happened to me too - although I haven't apologised in those circumstances as it's the buyers mistake.
As I hadn't issued an invoice originally I was still able to send one with correct postage direct from ebid.

Nothing! I'm happy to say that my buyer has paid the proper invoice, but I'd rather this wasn't possible.

Had this happen to me a couple of times as well...its a pain having to sort it out. I would like to see the 'postage not known', replaced with 'contact seller for postage costs' ...and yes, have it linked so that that they can't pay until the postage costs are added.

Stitchysyl, how do you do "and yes, have it linked so that that they can't pay until the postage costs are added.

Crazymama, that's why I started to put unknown in the shipping.

I recently sold a coin to So. Africa and found that I could only mail it registered - at a higher cost. We worked it out, but I can't seem to find a standard "non-USA" amount that will cover all circumstances. I thought priority would do it, but I guess not. (coins can only be reg. to S. Africa.)

I also have had this happen with a buyer from overseas, although my auctions and notice clearly point out that overseas buyers are to ask for a postal quote before bidding. Payment seems to be made very quickly presumably hoping to get a bargain. I had to refund and issue an invoice.

I agree, it would make it much better if oversea buyers cannot pay for items when "postage is unknown".

Maybe it would help if we include in our auction listings something like "Overseas bidders please contact me before bidding to check postage"?
