I've recently joined ebid, and trying to find my way around etc, after using ebay for so long.

My issue is I cannot bid on the item I want. I have at long last found an item that I have been looking for for many months, I was so happy, but when I try to bid, I get a message saying I do not have the required amount of feedback to bid on the item.

Now this is a ludicrous system......how am I supposed to get feedback if I can't buy the items I want?? Do you expect me to purchase items I don't need or want?? or to start selling items when I have no desire to sell anything?? Just to earn feedback?? Absolute madness, and unless I am missing something here, you have just lost my custom. And I am sure you will have (indeed have already had) many more potential customers leave and never return because of this ridiculous and poorly thought out rule.......

I am ready to desert ebay completely, and I really had a good feeling about ebid and thought this was going to be my new home........but at the moment it's not an option.

The requirement for a certain number of feedback to bid is set by the seller not the site. Probably the seller has had trouble with NPB's. Most sellers items are open to everyone to bid on.

I'd suggest that you contact the seller and let them know you're serious. They will almost certainly alter the auction so that you can bid.

Hi. yes you're missing something. It's the sellers choice not the sites, Ebay have a similar system where sellers can block buyers with certain feedback ratings. Have you used the 'ask a question' feature on the listing to ask if the seller will relax the requirement on this occasion? They may well do that

Hello Ipswichross, yes the sellers are able to set some limits on their auctions, as they can on other sites. As HannaHolly says, it may be that simply contacting the seller to reassure them that you are a serious bidder will help.

There is also a 'wanted' section and forums that you can use. As you have never been able to find the item on the other site you must be looking for something pretty special. I would think the forums would be a great place to get some help sourcing the item.
