Yes, ebay have continued to promote themselves as the biggest car boot sale in the world, in spite of the fact that their home market doesn't understand that particular expression and every change has sent more sellers over here but the buying traffic lags well behind. I'm not being negative, but I just feel that tinkering with the buying experience by introducing best offers is not going to make a scrap of difference.

I know that management reads the boards and I would prefer it if they didn't pick up the idea that this is a good way to spend their valuable time!

I see your point - although I would vote for a 'best offer option' in my ideal list, with the limited resources available to the boys, I would prefer a special offer feature where you could run discounts/BOGOFs etc in your store.

I already do 'best offer' It's the price i start my auctions at! .

I'd vote no to this as an idea for ebid.

Whilst playing the national card may seem a good idea, it also has a negative side in that you may alienate US buyers and sellers, a huge market and one that should not be dismissed, not a brilliant idea methinks.

A good idea for those buyers and sellers who want to make use of it. No need for those who do not like the idea to use it or stop others who do. Of course, its up to eBid to implement it if the company thinks that it is a good way of boosting trading.

This is another useful way of buying and selling - which is what eBid is all about.

Can the buyers not use the ask facility if they want to make a best offer? If the item has no bids, the seller can easily revise the auction to add a BIN price if they think that the offer is ok.

I'm not sure about ebay UK but on ebay italy a best offer facility with an auto response (IE refusal with an auto message) if the offer is below a certain amount already exists. I like it but it does add time to auction listings. The last time I listed a load of stuff on ebay italy it all had best offer option. I had a few (maybe 8) offers that were above my auto refusal price and told them all to try ebid where the same item was available for less already and that if the ebid price was still too high they could make on offer on here from the ask seller question button. Only one of the buggers came over here to buy anything. But he did buy £40 worth. Still no FB from him thou

Anyway it cant hurt to include it but it isnt that important. If a best offer facility was included it would have to involve an auto refusal level. Or else we would probobly have a load of really low offers to deal with.

Think of it this way though (several points here) -

As a child, did you have to stand in assembly and sing the national anthem with hand on heart then pledge allegiance to the national flag EVERY morning?

The purpose of a marketing department is to tailor the marketing used for the market intended

How many homes in the UK do you see with the national flag hanging in the front window or off the front porch?

Whatever happened to the British Lion on eggs?

Where did the 'Made in Britain' stamp go (other than into tattoos on some neo-nazi's bum)?

Why are Scots so annoyed that the largest burger chain in the UK has a Scottish name but is American owned?

Why does eBay continually state that most Americans will not bid on items located outside their own state? And that even more will not buy items outside their own country?

Why are Brits so reticent at pushing the interests of their own country, company, and themselves? And why has America just been named as the most go-getting nation in terms of business determination? (BBC World last night)?

Nothing wrong with Nationalism, provided it does not become Fascism.
One should have pride in one's own country, and when the majority do not, the country as a whole falls into decline.
