I would expect a positive attitude towards a site by it's own members

btw - the topic was a question asking which members also traded here. I kept out of it as I dont favour one site over others as I cant find my rose tinted specs

I think that a better idea than face book groups would be if eBid could approach them and become a sort of 'partner'. Members of face book could buy and sell items from each other and search for listings on eBid. I don't know how to describe it really, some type of integration between a social community site and an auction house.

Have a look on the eBay community forum...quite a few negative attitudes by its own members ;-). I don't think a bit of criticism is bad as long as it's constructive and as long as the auction site listens to its members and corrects problems when they arise :-)

I totally agree with you Greenmasons. I would expect negative (when constructive) criticism to be encouraged among members as the guys upstairs will have ideas to work on then to improve the site or whatever.

But I was talking in particular about the site you mentioned - on there ANY negative criticism is strongly DIScouraged and anyone who says anything even slightly negative about the site/management in the forums is immediately pounced on.

You would only have to go back a few months in the forums to see the evidence of that.

Default Where is the website glitch here?

Sorry to poke my nose in uninvited but this thread is supposed to be for website glitches and suggestions. The promotion of eBid and all associated topics has its own forum HERE and most of what is being said in this one is already there. Why not take this to the right place and let newcomers know about the £2,000 challenge, as I don't really think the title 'Advertising' can be classed as a web glitch

I have no doubt that Ebid are dragging in a few sellers as we are all sick of Ebay and we searched hard for somewhere else to sell our goods, but your average buyer is not going to do that at all and surely a little bit of cash needs to be spent advertising Ebid!!

Surely even an old fashioned leaflet shoot would bring extra buyers in? I am sure this is a discussion that has been done time after time but I am a new Seller here and I couldn't find a similar thread!

I am happy that I have managed to make a sale on my first day here, but the buyer did happen to let slip that he had checked Ebay first and my product was slightly cheaper so I got the sale. What really concerns me though is the complete lack of views of products....my most popular items arent even getting the views that my worst items would get on ebay, so a definate need to drag in more people I think.

I used to run a website rather than sell on Ebay, but I have given that up now and will just focus on Ebid at the moment.

I will be sending an email to all of the customers that had bought something from me and mention that I am now on Ebid and to come and have a look etc, but I do feel more should be done by Ebid to promote themselves if they are serious in their aim to compete with Ebay, or even to place themselves as the second most popular auction site wouldn't be a bad achievment!

Okay...semi-rant moan over!! Other than this I do like the look and feel of Ebid and there are lots of friendly people on here who have helped me out already!

I really don't want to get into the T vs feebay vs eBid debate again, but it all need to be put in perspective.

T started with massive investment so were able to throw money at the site, it started well & grew very fast, they also had greater staffing levels than eBid. Then Lee left & the money men took over & changed the whole ethos of the place & many people left, for approx 8 months nothing happened. Lee came back & it has been revamped again I think that's the 4th time in 14 months. I don't think the money men have left they are just not as visible at the moment.

eBid started with just a small intitial investment & is self financing even now it's basically two people Gazza & Mark with a couple of part-time support staff. There are no money men to answer to but because of this growth has been steady as opposed to rapid but it is picking up pace all the time (snowball effect) as the site grows this enables the guys to spend more on it. In the last 14 months they have more than doubled their google adword spend, doubled the number of servers, revamped the site, added merchandise, & taken on a PR company.

According to Wikipedia ( I don't have time to do a more in depth search) In 2006 feebay had 11,600 employees, their revenue was $5.969 billion US Dollars.

Whilst paypal seem to have a lot of detractors all with good reason it does seem to be the only payment method that most customers want.==Anyone know if paypal give the same protection well perceived protection to buyers on here as on E Bay as I was wondering, that if they dont give the protection this maybe a main fact in slow buying as no doubt people are mainly creatures of habit and will stick with something they know as opposed to a jump into the unkown.
