My son has just been home for a weeks R&R from Afghanistan...flew back out on Sunday. He is in the RAF.
This is his fourth time in a conflict situation, he was in the gulf, then Kosavo, and now Afghanistan...but this time was the first time I have seen him so quiet and unsettled. I don't know how to explain it...but the major thing he did talk about was the lack of support from the people here at home, how it was felt by everyone out there.
They see the way that the USA support their military and see how little they get.
I know lots of people don't think they should be out there...but when you are doing the job and you hear all the negativity from the public at home, their morale suffers A LOT.
in theory its a great idea and about time they were given the respect they are due
but i suspect not only would this not happen but if it did the troops would stick their noses up
i just don't know really sorry not much to add dont know what its like
The 'wars' in Iraq and Afghanistan are simply nothing to do with us. Neither country was a threat to the UK in any way but our continuing presence in both countries DOES make trouble for the UK, especially as we are closely allied to the trigger happy yanks. Whilst I have nothing but respect to the soldiers on the ground, to publicly support them would be seen as my supporting of the war, which I most certainly do not. I think many people may feel that way.
We should support our boys all the way
do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not become a dragon?
Brian
although i support the armed forces in both iraq and afghanistan
the idea to treat them as heros disgusts me,
they are doing there job a job that they get paid well for and a job that they went into with there eyes open.
what about when they were in ireland they was not treated as heros when they came home why now???
yeah they went in with eyes open to serve queen and country and govt and take all the flack and get eff all back
not your normal 9-5 job si
Welcome home, no-one showed up at any of the events, to which I find disgusting, theyre forced to go there by those idiots who claim to run our so called Country, they fight an argument that is basically over OIL & MONEY. And what does the Government & the people of that Country do "NAFF ALL" not one bothered to show up. Now no-one has come home from the war where I live and there has been no welcome home party. If there was I would attend & welcome them, they chose to join armies navy etc etc, so yea they signed up to defend us BUT ............ they didnt sign up to fight a war that had naff all to do with us in the first place. We werent the ones who were being attacked, its the so called DEMOCRATIC (for want of a better word) MORONCRATIC so called leaders, they start the fight let them & their so called rightous families go & fight it. Damn politicians, the only thing they could do is stir up hate & fight for money. oil & land. We gave back India now let the EAST get on with their own bullies, if they stood up to their tyrants then our men wouldnt have to go and do the fighting for them.........
BRING EVERYONE HOME, WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
they are not heros
eff all?
so they do it for love then?
i support them 95% but heros welcome
sorry its taking the pi$$
there is no war in iraq,
we are just ocuping there country
..when you join the armed forces you sign a document saying that you could go to war and you could be killed in action
you dont get to pick and choose what wars you are going to fight
