Thread: Who claims for missing parcel?

  1. #1

Default Who claims for missing parcel?

Would like to know what the protocol is for claiming for missing parcel. My customer says item not arrived, and wants me to refund half the cost of item, says I am to take responsibility for half the loss, and to make a claim from the post office. This is the first time this has happened to me, so please would someone talk me through the procedure. Sorry if this is a silly question, but I am having a 'wobble'.

The sender is the one who has the contract with the post office, so it is always them who has to claim.

You'll need to fill in a claim form which they will supply.

Thanks for reply. I sent 1st class standard and yes now over 15 days. Item cost £8.00, so not a fortune but enough.
Your replies have been helpful , if only to focus myself again after the wobble. I know the q. seemed silly, but there was more to this than I could put on an open forum - more demands etc. Ta very much. lippyloo

I got caught out twice by what I classed as a scam in the end

So now I will claim in full from the PO incl postage and only refund customer when the claim has been settled...Strangely enough this hasn't occured since I made my terms & conditions clear on every listing

Put this in your terms & conditions...Prospective buyers then know exactly what the score is if they decide to claim for alledgedly lost items....

I have had similar problems on another site, so everything now goes either recorded or special delivery. The buyer pays for this of course but means either way both are protected. But then again the PO doesnt always knock to ask for a signature to prove its been delivered. So if the item doesnt show up, you can always go to the royal mail website & check for signature and then after 15 days make sure you fill in a claim form, and get the money refunded to you directly, as if the buyer is dodgy they can make claims that they didnt recieve the refund from you or royalmail.. I know I have been there.
If the buyer is making demands for refunds and is not willing or asking you to investigate before making such demands. I would think the buyer could be a bit iffy.
Check their feedback and if possible contact anyone who has sold to them and ask if the buyer played this trick on them before.
Did the buyer contact you to ask if parcel has been posted. Let us all know be fun finding out who your culprit is.

    Hi
I know others have said the same, BUT I fnd it very strange that they are asking for half of the amount, seems like they are trying to get it cheaper to me!
Anyway, to answer your Q, the sender has to claim.
    Have a look!

In some cases, if not all, the buyer is also asked to complete a form by the RM, so any 'repeat offenders' can be spotted (as well as bad posties, etc.).

Yes as has been said the sender is responsible to make sure the product reaches the buyer, so it is you that makes the claim to Royal Mail. One point to mention Royal Mail now only refund the cost of the item i.e. the price you paid for it NOT the price you sold it to your customer for, this has been the case for a few months now. You will need to show Royal Mail your purchase invoice, or a copy of. We have found that to claim for low value items is pointless.
