That wasnt just one store either.. i went in to the local one initially for the camera, and then bought a zoom lense down in a store in Cornwall and they were just as helpful

tried today but it was mobbed so going back on monday when it should be better.

did you look at my link - it's rose quartz chunks - quite good for a point and click and I'm not sure that any other point and click would do better than that tbh so does look as though an SLR is on the cards.

Which one did you get btw?

yeah i saw the rose quartz..... pretty good, much better than my point n shoot could manage lol

i got the Nikon D80 but most go for Cannon as they are more popular, it was around £540 but that was just the body. You can get them for less though and if its mainly close ups you want you would only need a macro lense... that would allow you to get in really close and get clear photos, the Jessops near here is open on a Sunday.. pretty quiet on the Sundays i have been in

lol sorry forgot who i was talking to for a sec

you wont get the body alone they get u to buy a lense with it but usually its a cheapo one... if you just want it for macro (close up) work then you need a macro lense.. they can advise you.. lenses go for about £200 upwards i think.. i have a Tamron macro lense i got for £350 and a Nikkor zoom lense for about £220..... dunno if you already have lights/light tent/flash?.... most of the lenses are automatic.. the D80 has 9 automatic focal points so it just selects them when its in focus.. but there is the manual option too... like i said, a lot to consider and jessops will give you some good advice..... otherwise u will get lots from different people and get confused lol

regarding the rose quartz thing, i'd have to see the original files u get when u take them.. u would get in closer with a good macro lense on an SLR thats for sure but not sure about image quality although it should be better

As with anything the better the quality of the milk bottle on the front of the camera determines image quality. Though to be honest even the kit lens that came with my Canon 350D produces some pretty good closeups. This for instance.

Also one way to improve your photos would be to put the item on an plain coloured towel or sheet and use that as a background instead of a shiny table.

One helpful websit is www.ephotozine.com it has lots of photography tips on there; and the people in the forums are very helpful as well.
Did you read the whole thread?

I don't use a shiny table - the link to rose quartz is on a plain sheet.

I already have a 2 point and click cameras and want to improve on the pictures I've already taken - I also want the camera to use for general use too.

I've been practising for 6 years so far - some examples can be found on my webby www.enchanted-gifts.co.uk
