surely at a workplace you should speak most common language ,so all workers can understand
    its otherwise classed as rude
or is it ok to speak in a language your fellow work mates cannot understand?

Sounds like yet another example of a bigwig spouting off without even bothering to find out the facts.

Probably got it from a disgruntled employee who also got the wrong end of the stick.

That's the problem with people who don't bother to check their information before making judgements based on it.

    its comments like this
“Our long-term aim is to create a bilingual Wales, where people will be able to speak Welsh or English when going about their daily business.”

so are they going to teach all new employees to be bilingual too
or maybe place in the job advert

Well, obviously they don't want Welsh people who either can't or won't speak.

I'm already too aware of the sign language that Welsh speaking people use toward English tourists.

Problem in this case, is that Bangor is a predominantly Welsh speaking town so the most common language is more than likely Welsh. If say an English manager came to the firm then they should learn to speak Welsh to fit in with them not the other way around.

Demanding they speak English is not on and one of the reasons the Welsh detest the English so much, especially in towns like Bangor.

The way I look at it is, they are in Wales, national language is Welsh. If you went to work in an office in France, would you complain about them speaking French? Would you expect them to neglect their own language and speak only in English when you are around?

Actually this does bug me, not the Welsh/English thing as I myself am Welsh and speak mostly English. It's the Polish immigrants that come over and refuse to learn either Welsh or English. They should be made to learn the language or go back to where they came from.

    ok rant over
