I was just looking through the links in QCPOTS post (#210). Let me get this straight QC. It seems that your 'website' is basically just a page that connects to your store categories on Ebid. That's an excellent idea! Are lots of people doing the same?
I'm not prepared to chip in money to advertise eBid, but will market the place in whatever way I can - there are huge differences between MARKETING, ADVERTISING and PROMOTING. Over the past 10 years I have spent a small fortune researching possibilities and still spend a small fortune promoting & marketing.
I'll probably get lynched for what I'm about to say, but here goes anyway... if you wanted a national advertisement on the likes of ITV, for example, it can cost over a million pounds for 30 seconds! I doubt very much if you could run a nationawide advert for much less than £500,000 and that is PER 30 SECONDS of advertising. HOWEVER, there IS a way to get relatively inexpensive nationwide television exposure. We tried it! How do I know? Because our nationwide television exposure averaged under £10,000 per MINUTE! That went out throughout the UK, mid afternoon, on Channel 4. It took a fair bit of research, hard work and a great deal of patience to implement, but it was well worth it and can be repeated ANYTIME in the future for a fraction of the original cost.
There are other, cheaper, less obvious ways of gaining publicity but they are becoming more and more difficult to 'slip through' the nets and onto television. By far, the cheapest form of advertising is good PR.
