Old Cat, forerunner of the cats I have today, taught Michael how to treat cats. She boxed his ears if he stepped out of line. She never bit or scratched him, but you could hear the blows land as she hit him.
She wasn't a gentle cat. On one occassion she ran across the front field to attack two German Shepherds, which were so frightened of the screaming dervish that they bolted. The owner, who up till then had them under good control, ran off up the road after them in a vain attempt to catch them. My mother once made the mistake of bringing her German Shepherd to visit. He had been one of our pups and she grew up with him, so we were a bit surprised when she went over the gate, and landed on his back spitting and swearing. He jumped back in the car and refused to come out. She was fine with the 3 German Shepherds I had at the time. I always had the feeling that she thought she was a GS herself.
