Cool Get more sales, build a DIY website. You CAN do it!

After going off on a rant about advertising (elsewhere in the forums) and pointing out that 3636 stores listed on here could be 3636 websites advertising eBid, it has been pointed out to me that some people find the costs of setting up a website prohibitive or don't understand how to build one. If anyone is interested in finding out how to promote their eBid store via their very own DIY website, then let me know and I, for one, will be only too happy to share the necessary information that the web design companies DON'T want you to know :-D
For example purposes, I'll use my latest site at cyberdosh .co .uk - no advertising intended as this site is purely to promote eBid, help new eBidders, encourage more eBidders and is my eBid store name. The site cost me just over £10 to create and that will be there advertising eBid and the linked stores for 2 years before I need to pay anything again. Got you interested?
My apologies to any web designers out there who would prefer the general public NOT to know how little it costs for the basic implementation of a website.

Thumbs up Ex ebay Seller Would Like Some Help Designing Website

    Hi
I would like to take you up on the offer of designing a website to point buyers and sellers to ebid
I am an ex seller on ebay and am fed up of them being judge and jury as to what and when you can sell, letting you list, taking their fees then booting your auctions....
Help needed to get up and running on ebid....and ways of promoting my items etc..
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Supermum321,

It will be my pleasure to share a few 'secrets', hints and tips on creating your own website. I just have to find out from Gazza if it's alright to do said deed here in the forums around the Kitchen Table. I'll go ask right now.

Hope to get back to you soon about this,

Thank you Nykmedia, I was the one who pointed it out, and I would love to take you up on your offer, but it would have to be very simple. You said my service provider might provide us with space, I use AOL and they have what they call a journal or a home page is this the same as a website, See how thick I am,
I look forward to trying to do this if you can get permission

Hello, and thank you for your interest. I think it would be great to see a whole load of new websites self-promoting eBid stores and helping drive combined traffic to the main eBid site. (My first ever website was on AOL, which is still my favoured ISP.)
Before I continue, I have now added both your stores to my new site at www.cyberdosh.co.uk The list of eBid stores on there is growing nicely and the links can all be copied over if anyone wants the list.
First off, now that you already have 2 stores operating on eBid, they are just like having websites. They operate the exact same way - you add the text and details and eBid provides you with the rest. In theory, you could simply point a domain name at your eBid store, but it's nice to put your own touches to your main page and getting it submitted to the search engines. You can also add your www. to your stationery etc
AOL is excellent for practicing the basics of maintaining a website because they offer you free space for this with each of their screen names. Do you have a word processing package on your computer? If so, you can easily create a web site in something like Word, and then save it to your free space. The biggest expense you need cover is the cost of your domain name, but these can be bought and registered for around £8.99 + vat for two full years.
I'll gladly pass on the information if you fancy giving it a go
