I don't see anything wrong with Kerryb not wanting to spend alot of time with descriptions when you are listing books or any other cheap items. If people know the specific item they are searching for there is no need for a long description. If they are just browsing then a description is a big plus. I'm not sure if picking on someones listings is the best way to get them to join the forums here but they seemed to take the criticism well. I've got some real crappy descriptions if any one wants to take a look and buy something while you're there.
the worst descriptions is when something is described as real and isnt , new and isnt , good quality and isnt, original and isnt ... and so on .... LIARS! Yeah, thats the worst description in an auction, cus in a case like this you just think NAH, dont buy it. But when someone described something and you like the desrciption and the item is nothing like the pic or the way they describe it .... GGRRRRR.
Describe or not? Really comes down to do you want to sell or not?
If you can't be bothered to advertise it properly why should someone be bothered to buy it?

It should be up to the seller how they choose to advertise their products.
I find it strange and a bit cruel that an auction with a lack of a 'proper' description should be highlighted in this way on the Forum.
If the OP wants to offer the seller some advice I'm sure there are better ways to do it.
It is up to the seller. As has been posted already, they can either choose a description which aids sales or not.
And you, in your whole life, have never remarked on something that you didn't like without instantly trying to find a way to either fix it or advise the creator of that "thing"?
If you were trying to offer help and advice to the seller then that's commendable, but I think there were better ways to do it and in a more sure-fire 'instant' way - via a Private Message for example.
I don't think it's really fair to hold individual listings up for scrutiny in the Forum unless invited to by the seller.
This particular seller took it very well, but others may be put off for fear they make a "mistake" in their listing too.
No I wasn't trying to offer help or advice. Had I wanted to do that I'd have addressed my comments to the seller.
As I have already stated, I was pointing out something which I don't like as it annoyed me.
Why not? Every seller automatically sets their auctions up for scrutiny by not only the forum members, but also by anyone else who browses their auctions.
And perhaps even more people will now think twice when writing their listings and include a decent level of information.
Oh OK! That makes it alright then?
Maybe eBid should put a Disclaimer before anyone lists an item for sale along the lines of:
Warning! damian_steele patrols this auction site. Any listing that doesn't reach his expected standard and annoys him may be singled out for attention and ridicule on the Public Forum
There was no way you could have known the seller would read your comments on the Forum. You singled out an auction for specific attention and painted it in a negative light.
If you don't like the way someone lists their sales then you don't have to buy from them.
Unless they are breaking any listing rules it is up to the seller what they do and do not include in their listings - not you or anyone else.
