Thread: Calling all cat owners... opinion please!

Unhappy Calling all cat owners... opinion please!

    Hi all,

I have been trying to book holiday accommodation where my two cats will also be welcome, without success. Wherever it advertises pets welcome, it only means dogs. Surely I'm not the only cat owner who would like to include my pet in my holiday.

Does any one else think they should be allowed?

Holiday properties are either dead against pets (dont want hairs etc all over the place) or they are for pets which means they dont mind. I think its very strange to allow dogs but not cats. Have you contacted any of these people to see if cats are allowed? I would guess that dogs are listed mostly as people generally want to take dogs away...

to be honest i have never heard of someone taking their cat on holiday usually they get left behind

i would just check with them.... after all, dogs do more damage than cats

Hi yes I have contacted all of the places that say they accept pets and that I am interested in going to. Same answer every time no cats only dogs sorry. Yes we thought the same dogs would pose more of a problem.

    hmmm very strange

the places you are looking at.... are the owners on the small size? perhaps with a tail and a distinct liking of cheese?

(only explanation i can come up with )

I have two cats myself, both are indoor cats so fully litter trained. So yes, i can see it might be nice to take them with me, and a lot cheaper than putting them into a cattery

I am not sure I agree that cats make less damage than dogs though.

there is not a lot that is out of reach to a cat, window ledges are loved by them.

there is no wooden beam, leather or fabric couch that they wouldnt try out for a new scratching post

curtains are to be swung on and of course anything and everything deserves a quick chew

maybe my cats are just particularly naughty

imagine if the cottage owner always allows cats in the property and yours decide to be offended by smell of the previous inhabitants cat..

could end up with a bit of territorial spraying/scenting to deal with

good luck with your search though

would be interested to know of any places that do allow it

good at stripping wallpaper too. Oh yes and forgot when trying to catch a fly halfway up a sheer net curtain can leave a lovely design on it, because one does not have to remove ones claws to slide down to the bottom.

But dogs will chew and tear furniture scratch at doors bark at all times of the day or night do woopsies when they can't get out in time, and oh yes they will also mark with urine when they smell a previous visitor. So I still dont see how they would be more of a problem than dogs

I still have deep gouges in the curtain pole left by the terrible twin cats I had many years ago. Both pure white. 1 was green eyed, the other had amber eyes, which was the only way I could tell them apart. Net curtains or heavy fabric, it was all the same to them. They all got shredded. The furniture was covered in "pulls" and the wallpaper hung in festoons. I never figured out how the ceiling paper came down. After I found the hole in the plaster behind the settee, my husband said they had to be rehomed. We tried every cat repellant on the market and nothing deterred them. I gather their next owner wasn't worried about the trail of devastation they left. She had a "playpen" and cattery built on to the back of the house, and they were only allowed in when she was there to supervise them. When I last saw them they were 10 years old and still destructive.

I'm a big cat lover but I don't think for one minute you should take cats on holiday with you.

Cats are independent creatures and get used to their surroundings.

Are you thinking about taking your cats but keeping them indoors during the holiday?

Or will you let them go outside in the hope they'll return to you after exploring a place that's foreign to them?

Either way is wrong - that's why it's best to keep cats at home.
