Thread: My EBAY Listings Don't Work on Ebid! WHY?

  1. #11

have a look at any of my active listings to see what I mean

Hi don't know if this helps because obviously I can't see your original code, but I lifted the code from your listing & ran it through CSE HTML Validator Lite, & it came up with the following 15 times
    1) The "p" tag must have an end tag but the end tag was not found.
2)The end tag for "p" (opened in line 6) should appear before the end tag for "li"
In fact Line 6 seems to be 30 or so lines long.
I'm not sure if this could be causing your problem or not but worth checking anyway.

What program did you use for your coding?
It seems to put a lot of extra coding in, also a lot of your lines start with " "

    Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for that Gothicina - I'll check them later as today's a busy one

The current HTML was created in FrontPage, then put into Turbo Lister where it was cleaned of all the international codes ( SPAN commands etc)
Then brought into eBid via their spread sheet uploader

I can absolutely verify that the original spreadsheet doesn't have the html encoding for a space at the start of the line - that has been moved by the eBid engine from between the first and second words

The extra long line you refer to might be a paragraph of description - need to check it

    Hi all,

I'm having a slighly different problem I hope someone could help me with...

When I copy and paste my html code into the latest ebid spreadsheet it doesnt restrict itself to staying within the description box. It actually displays the wysiwyg version over several lines (depending how long my listing is). Every time there is a <P> in my html it apears to start on a new line.

My html was copied from the html box of one of my feebay listings. I have tried pasting it directly and also saving the html in paint, notepad and word first before pasting - just to see if it makes a difference.

Is there anyway I can format the excell box so that all of my description will go in at once? Any ideas would be deeply appreciated!

Oh... and by the way... I cant list them normally either - as soon as I get to the select sub category page my internet explorer shuts itself off. lol! It only ever does this on this particular page.

But that said I refuse to gripe about it, just want to find a solution, as we are paying nothing for the service and for that I'm VERY thankful!

Gazza has helped me find a solution to my problem...

Just paste the text into the toolbar and not into the cell on the page.

Hopefully this will help out some other newbies too!

    Best wishes,
    Kelly x

A littlr program from an unheard of little company called MICROSOFT! The program I used was Front Page
No-one seemed interested at the time so I gave up and went back to eBay where it costs me more BUT my front page listings work perfectly and I actually sell my products... eBid has been a total failure! They ask me to upgrade and pay for the privelege...!!! Perhaps IF they can prove that my products will sell.. maybe, otherwise NO WAY!

Hi Cocksparrer, I am back again after nearly a year.. it seems eBid are offering 50% off something... not sure what that is all about... You were right I never came back.. would you have after the first two replies to my initial question?.... I am doing quite well on eBay but it still costs too much.. But I really don't have the time to spend learning a completely new system.. It seems that many people are having the same probles as myself trying to use Front Page... I tried copying and pasting from my eBay listings but that got messed up too... Ah well back to Rip-off eBay.... John :O)

I know you were using MS Frontpage you said so in your post, I wouldn't use it to write webpages if you paid me too like all MS products it's bloatware, but that's your choice.

My reply, which you quoted today in this thread was to Mysta-Incense's post, not yours & made nearly a year ago, as were most of the other posts on this thread, well before eBid's site upgrades in March.

    Does the problem still exist?

I do know that some seller's sucessfully write their auctions in turbolister & then copy them into eBid, the main problem most people have is the 614px width restriction.

eBid have offered you the opportunity of a discounted upgrade it's entirely up to you as to whether you take up the offer or not, if you don't wish to receive offers like that, you can set your preferences in your My eBid section, so you do not receive them.

    John,

After your opening message I'm surprised you received a reply at all.

These forums are by and large unmoderated and rely upon the goodwill and patience of established members giving their own free time to help members such as yourself to try to get to grips with a new system.

If you don't have the time, patience or courtesy to seek and appreciate advice given in the forums then I suggest you get back to, in your own words, "rip-off eBay".

On the other hand if you're sick and tired of eBay fees and want to try something different then give eBid a go - it's really not difficult to pick up how to list and could save you a fortune if you have the right items for sale at the right price

There are good and bad ways of asking for help. Your opening post would definitely belong to the latter category!
