Thread: Which Payment Method To Offer?

  1. #1

Question Which Payment Method To Offer?

Hi, I am wondering which payment methods are preferred as there seems to be a lot around. I offer PayPal and direct bank deposit. As I am in Australia, I am not sure if direct bank deposit works internationally. I prefer PayPal as it is quick and I haven't had any problems on that "other" site.
I have noticed PPPay mentioned but also seen that members have trouble with it. Is Eggpay any good for us Aussies?
I would like to offer payment methods that are user friendly internationally and not sure which way to go. Any help with this would be appreciated.

I'm not stalking you although it might seem like it there aren't many other people around at this time of the morning (UK time) & your questions should be answered if possible.

I don't know anything about Eggpay, i've heard of it & some people seem to like it but i haven't used it myself.

It is entirely your own choice which payment methods you accept.

My auctions, good prices, fair p&p.

I've not used bank transfer for selling yet myself, but one thing you have to watch out for is the charges. They can either be shared or laid entirely on you as seller.

Bank transfers are not very popular in the UK, mainly because people are very suspicious of new methods. Apparantly though we are way behind the rest of the world on this. Unfortunately our banks are still living in the 19th Century, it takes atleast 3 days to transfer money between accounts, while the rest of the world have a quicker service.

Eggpay is currently only for British based accounts.

Although it is aimed at the UK I would suggest you take a look at the following web-site. It lists different payment methods, and also gives good advice for auctions.

    www.ukauctionhelp.co.uk

    Good luck.

The transfer takes so long because UK law permits the banks to delay the transaction for that period. Meanwhile, despite the fact that the money does not belong to the bank, they are permitted to "use" it and gain interest on it (which they keep) before finally sending it to wherever it was sent. It has been proven that transfers can take place in as little as an hour and still allow the bank to make a small profit on the transaction, but UK law does not force the banks to do this here so we get screwed.

Lol Anichka, seem like that doesn't it!!

Thanks to you and the other members for your replies to my question. Thanks too to Lofty for that link, even tho it's for UK it has some interesting stuff on it.
I guess it does come down to personal choice, but I don't want to lose prospective sales due to a lack of payment options and so many seem to be anti PayPal which is currently the only international option I offer.

Look at www.Moneybookers.com for international payments

Thanks Ann, for the link to Moneybookers. I had a good look around their site and they cover quite a lot of countries. The fees are high though AU$3.10 to withdraw to your own account. But I guess if you let it build up for awhile it would be OK. Seems like a very easy way to pay - same as PayPal - just need an email address. Anyone else tried it?

    Thanks again

I'm also thinking adding PPPay to my listings but it is worth it.

PayPal , BidPay, and Google checkout are popular.

Paypal and Bidpay are open to many countries.

Fastpay(wich is closing) pppay, and Nochecks are not avaible in the USA but are avaible in UK. If you sell to UK only you may want to consider Fastpay, ppay and/or Nochecks. Since they a quite poplar in UK.

Moneybookers is a way to pay via bank account.

Stormpay and Greenzap have been very unpoplar now due to scammers, Greenzap webcash scam, and stormpay being sued/ settlement/class act suite ect..

Paypal has been very well like, and very well hated. Unlike Stormpay the lawsuites havin't stoped Paypal from becoming the most poplar.

Pick more than one since with online payment processors you
may face scammers buying from you and your account getting locked up. So have a backup.

Bidpay payment have to been for online auction, since there company reviews the buyer and the sellers auction feedback ect..
I hear it can take an hour or a few days.

With Bidpay buyer can only pay with Credit cards. You can send the funds to you bank account.

PayPal is very poplar on eBay , Bidmoney and bid-alot auction site.

On thing I don't like about Paypal is the eChecks, but you can block thems
