Hi All,
Seems like a hot potato this one, always has been I suppose. I agree with something said earlier, it's down to personal preference. I also beleive it can also be dependent on the Terms of Sale that you use too.
For example, my last batch of computer equipment, included a box full of modems and other similar items. They were'nt boxed and probably pulled from old machines, I had no idea if they are working or not. There was no way I was going to spend hours testing them all, for items that would'nt fetch much anyway, so I listed them as I found them, untested.
Sold a modem and TV-in card from the same batch for a fraction of the retail cost, and made it clear that I did'nt not know if they were working or not, I also listed that there would be no returns. So what happens next, buyer pays the cash and I rate him positively immediately. He tests them and they are'nt working, comes across with an attitude etc, I explain the auction description to him (which was crystal clear anyway) and he negs me. I feel this is unfair as the description of the item was clear, but I have no comeback as I have already left a positive rating.
Would he have negged me if I had'nt left my feedback as soon as payment arrived (i did'nt even wait for cheque to clear) I doubt it. I would never threaten to use negative feedback, however the thought in the other persons mind that it could be applied may be enough for them to think about the transaction objectively.
From now on i'll be leaving feedback either after it has been left for me or when the buyer has e-mailed me to say they are happy with their purchase.
My advice: Do your own thing, live and learn.
Cheers
PH
