Thread: Whatevers left/adult

  1. #1

    Default Whatevers left/adult

    Hi,
one of the reasons I have started to move listings to ebid is the problems I have had with ebay's draconian attitude to anything considered over 18 in nature. It is such a refreshing change to find a site that dosnt have a problem with such listings. I have, to sell, about 350 magazines that range from the 1960's to the mid ninties. Almost all of these titles were available in UK newsagents when they were first printed and as such do not feature anything that is against the UK obscenity acts. As such I do not feel bad about selling such material. Those that were not available in newsagents (they were only available in sex shops) would be now.

If you look at QXL I think you will find that they make a great deal of there profits from the over 18 section. However they also charge a ridiculous ammount on the final value fee. Another reason to move to ebid.

So my catagory suggestion is to divide the adults only section up a bit more. I personally only sell magazines. At the moment there are 1165 magazines listed in this section. Lets say you introduce sections for the following most popular catagorys:

    -Pre 1980
    -Mayfair
    -Penthouse
    -Playboy
    -Men only
    -Club
    -Rustler
    -Hustler
    -Other Paul Raymond Titles
    -Other Soft UK titles
    -Continental Hardcore
    -UK Hardcore
    -Other

I think that this would attract serious customers from ebay and other sites, where such material gets deleted a lot. I'm thinking of your profits here! And my getting rid of my collection of course!

Well I move back to ebay then, if this place is going to turn into a porn shop.

Dont mean to offend but all of this material is available, or would be if still in print, in most newsagents. It really shouldnt be a problem selling it on an auction site. And ebid can make some good money from it if they want. The bay dont like it and its a problem selling the stuff on there. So us sellers go somewhere else. It really isnt just dirty old men in macks who buy this stuff you know! And more defensively: a lot of the stuff I have is very collectable. Many early UK mags have history articles... oh whats the point. yes its porn. I'll shut up about it.

I will be listing some non over 18 stuff when I have finished listing all the over 18 stuff.

Sorry, I didn't really mean what I said. I just hate anything to do with porn. And I have my childhood reasons.
But I dont have to look at the adult stuff do I?
I am sorry about my last post.

Christ! dont be sorry! I didnt take any offence. In a way I was testing the ground about ebid users attitude towards this kind of material being sold on here. I was half expecting a pasting, and I am made of too stern stuff to be offended by anything posted on an internet forum.

Anyway I shall keep posts relating to this material to a minimum.

Note to ebid: I am serious about the expansion of catagorys in the adults section. I listed only 30 items on Wednesday with zero feedback and have sold 2. I think it would be a good idea to make the section more browsable (sp?). Just dont do a QXL and wack up the final value fee to a monstrous amount (please).

I dont have a problem with you selling them as long as they are put in correct catagories. like the ones you are requesting.

I'd like to echo inversions sentiments, as long as the adult section has it's safeguards, which it seems to have, and no-one sees the material who doesn't want to.
Feebay is quite happy to take it's cut from the sale of counterfeit goods ( which IS against the law ) - that is what they should be policing, not what they deem 'immoral' and yet is completely legal.

A mate of mine sells dvds ( not adult ) - one was removed on the grounds of it contained sex and violence - it was certificated 18, can be bought in woolies, w.h.smith etc. just about ALL 18 cert. films have sex and violence - will Feebay ban them all ? ( they're be after tom and jerry next )

other obsenities they wisely protect us from include art by Raefael, DeVinci, Renoir, and many others, all images of Michaelangelo's Statue of David, and any paintings that include cherubs ....
