Maybe have a way of reporting the items to g&m where there is a form for reporting a post for whatever reason, high postage rates included? esp at the happy hour etc auctions

I've said this before- But the postage rate a seller chooses to pay is nothing to do with EBID - nor should it be. If EBID admin ever start telling sellers what they can and cannot charge in postage a lot of sellers would leave.

The way to deal with sellers who charge postage higher than you would like is - do not bid.

What would be very useful (and we have asked for this before) is for the item price AND postage to show on the searches so that the buyer can quickly see the total cost.

Does anyone know WHY happy hour auctions are restricted to £1.00 start anyway?

but their taking advantage of the £1 listings on 60 min and happy hour auctions by upping their postage to like £30,
There was one chloe handbag up yesterday- title stated free p&p, listing stated free p&p but actual postage specified when they list that appears at the side was like £25. I asked them what the actual cost was etc and tried to contact ebid but no reply from seller and couldn't contact ebid because my maptop wont do javascript

The way to deal with sellers who's listings are unclear and ambigious- is do not bid on their auctions. The responsibility (and choice) lies with the buyer- not with EBID admin

Like I said, I asked them but got no reply, and not everyone will notice the small print about postage when it states in the listing title free p&p

True enough, but when it's widespread the result is an auction site that drives buyers away.

When I'm in the market for something, I want to find it fast, compare the TOTAL price (i.e. including postage), make a decision and get on with my life.

Here's an example: this morning I realised I've run out of Jiffy bags, I need another 100 JL00 and JL000 sized bags. I come to ebid and put in Jiffy in the search. First problem, I can't compare prices because I have to go look at each auction to find the postage (in tiny print).

Second problem: some sellers are utterly lacking in clue. They don't give me the info I need IN THE TITLE. "100 padded jiffy bags". Idiot! What size are they?

3rd problem: with only 18 auctions, there's just not enough competition to make a marketplace.

Result? I head over to ebay and spend 20 quid there.

Displaying postage (or the total, bid+postage) in the ebid search and category listings would be a major step forward, would increase sales, would reduce the temptation for sellers to charge unreasonable postage.

Val4xx: you're right, don't bid if the postage is too high. But ebid's design could be improved so you can make that choice.

If you read my earlier post on this you'll see I agree with you. I made a request months ago for postage to be dispayed on the top level listings so that buyers could see the total cost. try emailing ebid admin with the suggestion as the more of us who request it, the more chance EBID will listen. support@ebid.tv

    I find this very interesting.
There are alot of you who dislike this way of selling and call it a scam but I cannot see any scam in it as all you have to do is read and you will find the posting and packing price and simple dont have to bid. If the seller lists something and makes the postage cost cover the cost of the item this is all he/ she is doing to get the money they require for the item and it is up to them how they do this.
If the bidder does not like it they simply dont bid and move on.
If the cost of postage is hidden in anyway then I think it can be refurred to as a scam naturally but it is not hard to see an item and check how much the post is before you bid. If the item is too expensive for what it is then simply move on It is their loss but I dont see what all the fuss is about really.
Also it can lower the cost of final value fee to the buyer which is also his or her choice. I have not sold anything on here as I am new but it is amazing how some people think that we should have a list of bad sellers. This is very judgemental of the seller that we know nothing about who could be simply experimenting on different techniques. If thats what they want for the item and just making sure they get the money then that is their choice entily so we really have no right to say how others should sell just simply carry on with your search and make sure you read the destcription and check for postage as we have no right to say how others should sell.

all this being said is ok but
as a seller here and on the dark side i pay fees

some of the people with high postage charges, lower the starting price to save on fees this IS A SCAM .. but like you say you dont have to bid as that is your choice
