add the digits together - 10

subtract from original number - 36

now look at the symbol by #36

Now look at the symbols by 9, 18, 27, 45, 54, 63 & 81

Whatever number you choose, adding the numbers & taking away from the original number will always produce a multiple of 9
e.g. 53 - 8 = 45

47 - 11 = 36

95 - 14 = 81

99 - 18 =81
10 - 1 = 9
