Who in their right mind would be seen carrying one of these around or allowing one of their kids be seen with it nowadays ?

I've said it before and I'll say it again - There's nowt as queer as folk !
Oh yeah I meant to ask... what is the legal power for a BB gun ?, is the "modified" rifle still within legal limits ?

quick rundown on the law on airsoft weapons here:

    http://www.tea-and-medals.co.uk/the_law.htm

Basically, this weapon is not tournament legal at 350fps, as most competitions self regulate to 330fps. however, it is legal at 350fps because it falls below the power threshold of a section 5 firearm.(380 fps)

A firearm is described as "A lethally barrelled projectile weapon"

Lethal doesn't mean it has to be capable of killing you, just that it would inflict more than a "trivial" injury.

I'm not sanctioning this by the way, I think it's wrong to put these kind of weapons into just anyone's hands, and I believe they should be licensed in the same way as any other firearm.

Err ?, slight difference between a water pistol and a replica don't you think ?

Would you buy a replica for your kids if they asked for one ? (if they were old enough of course)

Can't you see the danger's of someone walking around with a realistic looking rifle nowadays ?

There's no real need for them IMHO.

OK Frank ... im afraid im of the mind ( IN THE MINORITY IM SURE ) where i quite like guns. Not for use / but if i was male and or rich i recon id prob have collected them.
    Along with old war memorobilia.

would i buy my kids a replica gun ? NO if its illegal. If it wasnt illegal and he or she wanted them as a collectable and was not a useable weapon then maybe yes. Id cross that bridge if and when i came to it. But then i have bought toy guns in the past that looked quite real to my untrained eye.

GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM ( as such ) imo , its the people who abuse them.

Anyway , kinda off point - if they are illegal to be sold here then they should not be sold. IF Its not illegal to sell them here then no probs.

I just get annoyed when *some people* go off on one about GUNS in general.
SOCIETY in general is where the problems lie. Children have been playing with guns since LONG, LONG AGO ... & I know my son likes guns but he knows REAL guns in the wrong hands can cause death.
Its the parents responcibility to teach their child well, so that when they are older IF they want to use guns for SPORT purposes ( airguns ) or what ever, that that is what they DO use them for and not to hurt anyone.

I know ( from old ) that my opinions , on this issue are not popular but they are my opinion.

I can see your point lass, and I agree up to a point. But, as far as I am concerned if someone one wants a gun for "sport" then they should join a club and the guns should be kept there.

My concern is not with people using the BB gun's to shoot someone with, my concern is mainly that the gun's are too real looking. Here in Huddersfield 99% of the shops have stopped selling them because of several incidents where replica's were used in crimes and one incident in Brighouse where police shot a man dead who was waving a replica rifle at them. The police said that the problem is that they can't tell if a rifle is a replica or not just by sight, they have to actually touch the gun or examine it to be sure.

I've nothing against people using guns, I'd quite like to use one myself, I've just got a problem with such realistic rifle's being available to any tom, dick, or harry without any sort of restrictions on ownership.

    Ah ... right frank

sorry , jumping the gun ( as per usual ) pardon the pun

SERIOUSLY ... Its the PEOPLE who are the PROBLEM.

If police are regularly ? shooting people who they think have real guns and they dont, Then yes i guess that is HUGE cause for concern.

My son would quite like to be in the police ( amongst other similar careers ) he might change his mind ? I HOPE as i think its too dangerous with the way things are now. With or without guns.

Ah well ... whole can of worms there i suppose hun, several cans.

I tried to find out where the guy got the poor definition of a firearm from...I'm diasappointed at an unqualified person giving vague information out, Charles.

I'm with you all the way on this subject. And I dont evn like toy guns, as some of them can look very real. Big colourful water pistols is as much as my kids would ever get, as far a guns go.

People get killed, because of such realistic guns.

I totally and utterly detest guns and anyone who uses them.

My husband and my kids could have been hit by an air rifle, Benjamin Mallinson only few doors from our house (totally intoxicated) and operating an air rifle looks through the view finder, watches my husband through it then fires the god damn thing, my ex had only just brought my kids back, thomas stood in the yard waving at me whilst the numpty was attempting to use the weapon. That lad fired it at least 3 times, at my house and in attempt to hit Paul or Allan imo. All this may well go to court, we don't know yet, but the main thing is, as we acted so quick he was arrested under the firearms offence. Loads of people walk down the back of where we live to get to somerfields, who's gonna be responsible for his next victim? Landlady? Police? or just a member of the public waiting to witness the crime?
