When do you start using the net?

I joined the internet in 1996 using CompuServe on one of the very first internet-ready PCs produced

I think I first logged on in 1999 with freeserve but changed to the free internet after the first quartly telephone bill was for 90 squid . The free internet was a pain in the backside because some nights you couldnt get online, then when you eventualy did it would kick you off again 2 minutes later.

We also started off with them back in '98/'99 and had the same problems. Tried and tested others along the way like Virgin, whom at the time were US, then NTL...were OK and now we're with AOL and we've never had any problems, also they keep updating us with better offers all the time with faster (broadband) speeds and cheaper options...brill!

When I was living in the states, I bought webtv for summer of 2000-my first time on the net. I had just finished a 4th major surgery and was bored; while recuperating {wrongly spelled I think}; i logged onto a few Christian sites. On one of them, I met someone. Through a lot of back and forth travelling, phone time {big bills} and emails and one whole year later, I was married and moved to UK! Almost 5 years later; we're still here and married!

must admit i dont get the way people slag aol off, never had any probs they wouldnt sort out and when i've looked at other peoples ISP's and they seem archaic alongside.

i can see though that for folk who know what they are doing there may be better ways, but for folk like me who like technology but arent too technical, aol works just fine...

I used 2 BBS services in the Manchester area called Cell Block H ( after the Oz program) and Neptune around 1989 using a 14k modem...anyone else use these two BBS's ?...

I started on the Net when I built a 486 when they first came out. I remember using this 486 for displaying weather sat pix from the NOAA sats.
