Thread: Google Earth, can you see yourself?

  1. #1

Default Google Earth, can you see yourself?

We were discussing it on another board, and I had a look at my house, and I was in the garden building my pond.
We also deduced the photos were taken in the summer of 2003.
That may not be the case in your area, but I would think most of the country was taken around the same time.
The car in front of the house is a Rover SD1 which I owned for a few months of 2003, and the black one is a Citreon Xantia.

I'm at the point of the red arrow, the pond outline is marked in yellow.
    Here's without the markings.

    Are you in any pics?

What a fantastic link. The pics are older than 2003 though. My current house wasn't built until late 2003, and the map shows the factory that used to be on this site. Equally, when looking up my old house, I can see my car on my drive so can date the image to Summer 2000. Oddly though, i also spotted my car on the car park at the place I work at - even though I didn't start there until Summer 2001 so the images obviously weren't taken around the same time.....

I'm not in the picture myself, but I can definitely identify my old car. The pictures of my area were taken in the spring/early summer 2002 as they show my new house still being built, and it had its roof put on later that year.

Yep. It was like seeing a ghost. The old pond , no workshop, a car outside that was given to my grandson last May, and next door's Tour Bus, that went the way of all things 18 months ago. We can see the satellite quite clearly sometimes in the late afternoon as the sun reflects off it.

If you have broadband, you can download the program 'Google Earth' from the Web Site. You can get a closer zoom on the high resolution areas and at least a low resolution image for most other parts of the world. Unfortunately that includes most of Scotland, I was only able to recognise the streets in my old home town of Dunbar.
I did manage to locate my brother's new house being built in Australia. This is in the outer suburbs of Perth which for some reason was in hi-res where his old house closer in the city wasn't.
