Thread: George Best

    Default George Best

OK, I know a lot of people held George Best in high esteem, but is that any reason for the BBC to be treating his funeral like a Royal Funeral? There's practically uninterrupted coverage on BBC News 24 followed by more coverage on BBC1 this morning.......

I couldn't agree more. He was, in his younger days, a good football player. When all is said and done, they are just young men who are overpaid for just playing a game.
In his middle years he was just a drunk who destroyed his liver.
He was given a new liver, and the chance of a long life, and he chose to carry on being a drunk. A right kick in the teeth for the family of the Donor.
I knew what to expect when the Media started wittering on that his funeral was going to rival Princess Diana's. Oh Perleeease!!! My TV is off for the day. Probably tomorrow too. Hopefully there will be some real news by Monday.

Wot I don't understand is all these fan's saying how fantastic he was, IMO he was a great footballer in his days but he turned his back on his fans the day he left footy in his 20s and decided to live the high life with the booze
Life is serious but taking it too seriously robs you of
    happiness, fun and productivity

He was gorgeous looking and a great footballer when he was younger but has a human being he was total crap.

No responsibility to his fans, his family, especially the wives he beat, or even himself.

I thought he tried to redeem himself at the very end by letting his manager take photos of the state he was in as a deterent to others but he was a bit late.

As someone else pointed out, he had done nothing to further the cause of transplant surgery, the family of his donor must be devastated to think it was wasted but probably not as devastated as the family of those who were passed over so Bestie could get another chance.

Even now he's still playing football.

"The striker's in the box, the defenders are nowhere to be seen. It's just a wide open hole in front of him. Can he score?"

Yeah, but that's not my style is it?

If I was all "touchy feely" and "Mr Sensative" you'd have nobody to dislike, would you?

Besides, what difference does it make whether it's one day, two days, a week, a month or a year? Some people will laugh at it and others will get pi$$y about it - time makes no odds.

    IMO.

if the inference is i dislike you i never said that
if it wasnt the inference then well done for community service for wanting/hoping to have peeps dislike you - touchy feely would have been good in this case or opted out of instead of bashing someone with a joke whilest they getting put 6 foot under

oh and the difference is called respect for the dead on their burying day
if you think that dont matter then fair enough
    we shall differ on that
jokes are fine and dandy in the whole scheme of things
but when its combined with criticism of a person and that criticism pummellled in day in day out not only before their imminent death and during and after - but even at the moment of their burial i dont like that

    nasty

if the world hated me i would hope they put their comments aside whilst i was getting buried thats all im saying

    then worlds their oyster
