Yep, I got something similar. Ordered a book in the middle of last week but got a message to say they couldn't guarantee it's delivery before Christmas unless i paid more! Got a delivery date window of December 17th to January 2nd - FOR A PAPERBACK!!!! Good job it's not for a present.....

I think they have been going downhill on delivery the past couple of years. I am in the third year of my degree course.

First year I bought books, I had them by the end of the week I'd ordered them. Second year, I was having to wait a couple of weeks, and this year, it's meant a wait of up to four weeks to six weeks.

I guess they would come quicker if I paid for delivery, but I get free delivery because of the amount of coursework books I have to get. It's damned annoying ordering them as soon as the student loan arrives, being told on the website they will be 2-3 days delivery because they are in stock, them once you have paid, you get an email giving a date up to four weeks away. By the time I have decided what assignment to do, ordered the books in, and they have arrived, they are too late to be included in my assignment, or I would be late handing it in, and be penalised.

There isn't much choice in this town for books unless you want the bargain basement books or WH Smiths, and they have a really limited range, so there is no other choice for them if they aren't available on the auction sites.

I sell in the Amazon 'marketplace' section and offer much quicker delivery ;-)

However if you buy the same books from me here you get them much cheaper because the Amazon fees element isn't in the calculation

I bought a book on Amazaon the other day... it arrived the next day.. that was from the new and used section though so not actually amazon themselves.

Buy tons of stuff off Amazon and only had a problem once when I had to waid over 3 months for a book.

Ordered all my Christmas stuff last month and it was all here within a week.
