Just like to add..they are 4 women discussing this matter and 2 of us have been affected by porn in one way or another..thats 50%..

I'm with you all the way. And the password thing would be a great idea. And I dont see why other ebider would not think its a good idea. It would notbe hard to set up. And It would keep kids from getting into the adult section by mistake. I did start a poll up on another post about it. But some people dont seem to care about kids these days.
I know what can happen to kids, as I have been though it myself. And I dont want my daughter scared for life like her mum.

50%.. Just because not all of us volunteer information in public doesn't mean we don't have a past. I don't feel it apropriate for *me* personally to go into anything, but that's just me. Not everybody comes out of similar circumstance with the same opinions on things..

I do happen to resent the insinuation I don't give a crap - I was voicing my own suggestions on what to do if ebid *don't* address it, i.e. can the "monitor" programmes like netnanny screen things out of the auction site, rather than just screen out the site entirely.

Ultimately, I'm either pragmatic or apathetic, depending on how you view it: I've accepted the world is quite a crap place. Children get exposed to sex, violence, knowledge of drugs.. all the things we don't want them to have to confront, in a multitude of ways.. from real life, to the internet, to tv, to the playground.

Anyway, this shouldn't be personal... back to the subject.

I was quite surprised to find that, upon clicking the store link in someone's signature, I got to view all the adult (and non adult - I didn't know it was mostly porn before hand) items without being asked to click a disclaimer at all - isn't that a loophole that needs fixed??

Your right, that does need fixing. maybe the site will get better in time. But netnanny is a load of rubbish

I have watched this post unfold, and these opinions/fears call them what you will, have been discussed many times. Its like reading last year and the year before that. Stiring up the old hornets nest.

The adult section has been running for a long time, to stop problems of unsuitable items finding their way onto the frontpage we have developed some new checks into v5.0 of our software.

The thing that bothers me is I put a sellers name into the search eBid users to check all their auctions. I was not amused to find that an item from the Adult Section ( suposedly hidden behind a log in) was listed. Picture and all, beleive me the picture was in need of some censorship. I could get no further without logging in, but It's a bug that needsto be fixed IMO

I have 3 daughters (one 27 and twins 33) and currently 6 grandchildren (one due soon) varying from 7 - 15.

And i was a kid myself once long ago lol

So to the subject. As a young teen (and like all the other guys, not so sure about the gals) we were not to look at anything slightly adult, Mother even turned the tv off for what would now be considered a tame comedy. But we still got hold of adult mags and looked at adult material, its part of growing up. It does need to be limited tho, the internet is changing availability a lot.

However it is the parents responsibility to control what their kids access, you really cant expect every site in the world that has adult material to make customers jump through 200 hoops to buy a legal product.

To say you dont have time to monitor them is a copout, the simple answer is not to let them use the pc unsupervised or to block domains like ebid and anywhere else with adult material. Check their browser history and deal with any issues with them and take the appropriate action to stop them visiting the offending site.

Ebid has put some restriction in place, I agree not enough as there are several methods mentioned in this thread to bypass the 18 check. However if your kids want to look at adult material (and they do want to, all kids do) they will find a way, from the internet or adult mags from friends and a ton of other ways, they always have.

All we can do is educate them and protect them. I guess ts a balance between what we want and whats realistically possible.

There are methods to block unwanted sites from being opened, but the problem is adding all of the millions, its not possible, so educating our children to be responsible (lol we can try uh) is our job.
