think the operative word is REASONABLE

bought a piece of jewellery once 1st class stamp it came in and plain brown envelope
paid 3.50 p and p no bubble wrap/jiffy/recorded
now THAT annoys me lol
puts me off going back to same seller really shrugs their loss in long term

I have recently bought 3 pairs of gloves and a fleece hat from "over the road" in 4 separate auctions... which in total came to approx £4 and a few pennies... and he wants to charge me £9.50 p+p... so I emailed and asked if that was correct, his reply was that part of the purchase price is in the p+p to cover his own costs



That winds me up. If you want to cover your own costs, start the auction higher or put a reserve price on it !!

not your fault at all, you was conned, did you pay?? most of my neg feedback on feepay is because i refused to pay excessive postage costs, mainly from the usa

When you are browsing auctions over the other side ALL the listings now have 2 charges alongside them - the first charge is the item cost and the second charge is the p&p. This new format isn't very old and does mean that no buyer can say they didn't see the total cost any more.

Basically it's the same as just about every other area of life - we all have free will. We can decide to buy or not to buy.

Life isn't fair! Who ever said it was? To quibble about unfairness is imo a waste of time

who said anything about fairness?? to be cheated or conned is a whole lot differant than being unfair, sellers that are dishonest with there postage charges make me wonder if they have anything else to hide

I bought some material over there & postage was £10 "as this is a heavy lot of fabric"
Actual postage was £5
Sent an email, got no reply.
5 days later I left a neg - suddenly I get a reply c/w sob story about cost being high because of travelling to p.o., packing etc.
I did a search and discovered their nearest p.o was 1/2 a mile - 5 minute walk?
item placed inside an A4 wallet (card) and sealed with masking tape.
Seller then said they were away from home when the auction ended so they had to travel to p.o. & they had to guess the weight of the material & how it's common for sellers to add a bit onto postage to make up for low sale prices.

So I left my neg AND reported the seller for fee avoidance, enclosing their email as evidence.

F.F.F. ~ on the other side of the road you cant put a reserve price for anything less than £50!!
So hardly worth them putting reserve of £50 on hats/scarves etc.........no-one would bother even looking would they? Odd times i have sold household stuff on there I have wanted to put a fair reserve price, of, say £20, just so if the bidding was to end at lot lower I would be safe knowing i wasnt *giving* the item away........but you cant! So now dont bother with *that* side hardly at all.

I'll say again though, it's a free market place. Think of it as small print. If it were a high street store doing this, you wouldn't buy the product would you? Why not just accept that there are people out there who will pull this sort of scam and the best way to put them out of business if you can't get the authorities to do it for you is to not buy their products. Supply and demand I'm afraid.

I agree. It is important to look at the P&P before bidding, even though some people do con you out of paying considerably more for items to post than they should.

At the end of the day, its freedom of choice. You choose to purchase under the agreement that the postage price is as stated.

I am not saying it is right - just saying that is what you have agreed to when you purchase.

It would be impossible to have a standard charge - many people send in many ways (different jiffy bags, some people send invoices, some people buy specific bags for sending, some people pack themselves, ink costs, paper costs etc), so the true value of P&P is different to pinpoint on a GENERALISED scale.

To make it easy on my customers, I charge a flat fee of £1.00 on the first item and 50p on every item thereafter. If they purchase three or more, I send via recorded (without additional charges). I know on some items I will maybe make 20p and on others lose 20p - but at the end of the day, it would be difficult to put different prices on each item when you have a large product range.

In the end, for me as a seller, its swings and roundabouts.

But if anyone is interested, I am offering free delivery through November on all items
