My friend Jane (MuscadetAngel) and I both took today off to go shopping for our gift baskets, which we are making up for a Christmas fayre. We were raring to go and looking forward to it.
Went into a shop and went our separate ways around the shop to get bits. Anyway, I finished first and said to her I'd go outside to get some fresh air and wait for her.
After a while I saw her through the window in the queue and she mouthed to me "I've lost my purse"!!! Anyway, I went in and we did a scour around the shop in case it had fallen out of her bag, but no luck.
She went to her bank to cancel her cards and found that her bank account had been cleared out! All this in half an hour!
The shop next door to the shop we were in was a designer children's clothing shop - Burberry, Evisu, etc. and the thief had spent all her money in there on two cards - a debit and a credit card! They showed us what they had signed and took us out the back and we saw them on their CCTV recording!
Spent the afternoon at the police station and after hours and hours making statements etc. eventually (dark outside) got to leave.
Jane suggested we stop and have a glass of wine and something to eat on the way back as we had been out all day, only planning to be out until about 3pm (it was 7pm by this time).
In the restaurant, some bloke was staring at us both all the time we were in there. Jane (being Jane) decided to say goodbye to him on the way out. Walking up the street, she said to me, jokingly, "he's not following us is he", so I looked around and said "yes he is". She didn't believe me but I wasn't joking! We turned into the shopping centre that led to the car park and he was still behind us. She still didn't believe me and wouldn't look round thinking I was joking.
Eventually I turned around and looked at him and he called "hello" - I said "hello, and goodbye" and we legged it! Lost him (although I must admit I didn't feel threatened by him).
Anyway, just got home, totally knackered and didn't achieve anything what I intended to achieve today!
What a day!
At least she is insured for theft, but not for the cash that was in her purse that she had drawn out prior to us shopping!
Oh, she did get her purse back - the police had it when we got there - it was found in a charity shop up the road (I guess they didn't take credit cards!!!) - it still had 20p in it - nice of them to leave enough for her to make a phone call I suppose!
