Eek! My sis and her family are going to Florida (their once-in-a-lifetime trip to take the kids to Disney etc) at the weekend, and she is panicking now. Her husband is a bad flyer to start with, he is sh*tting bricks, he'll be on valium and a bottle of whisky by the weekend. They've taken out a whopping loan to pay for the holiday, so it could be a disaster.

My youngest daughter has a best mate who went there on Saturday for two weeks.

It started as a tropical storm, went to Cat 1 hurricane (bad gale) overnight, and this morning is said to be a Cat 4 (as in "batten down the hatches").

oh boy, are there any recommendations for not travelling there?? Is that kind of thing covered on insurance (if they have to delay the hol) ??

I'm not sure what is going on, but I think they are ringing the travel agent today, and double checking the small print on their holiday paperwork.

If the hurricane is classed as an Act of God, there might not be much they can do.

Wilma, the 12th hurricane of the season, is now travelling at 175mph, the US National Hurricane Centre said.

Hurricane Centre meteorologist Dan Brown said: "It does look like it poses a significant threat to Florida by the weekend.
