Good Luck to her Tracey. She's going to need it. My 3rd daughter is a trained chef. Along the way she was passed over for promotion and saw jobs given to men with less qualifications than her.
    Reasons given:-

    (1) My wife wouldn't want me to have a woman as Soux-Chef. [Guess who wears the trousers in that family.]

    (2) I couldn't work with a woman Soux-Chef. [From a Head Chef who left all the paperwork and ordering to her, and used her as a Soux-Chef without the promotion. She was acting Head Chef while he was in hospital and on holiday. He finally brought in a friend of his with less qualifications and promoted him.]

    (3) I can't promote you as you'll marry and have children. [She had already had 1, didn't like it, and hasn't had any more and finally got married this June, 8 years after his prediction].

    (4) Women are too temperamental to be Chefs. [This from a Head Chef who had just thrown 2 customer's meals at the wall because they weren't as he wanted them.]

She now runs a Pub restaurant. She is worth better than that after running a 4 star restaurant where Prince Andrew, and a load of celebs dined, but the sexism really got her down in the end. Despite the Sex Discrimination Act, a woman Chef has to be twice as good as the men just to get the same career breaks.

That is such good news! So many young people have totally unrealistic ambitions and yours is training for a real job.
