Personally I couldn't stand the bloke.

But at least he had the balls to stand up for what he believed was right.

I think it's a little too early for them to say for sure, but it sounds like it may have been a heart attack.

He and his wife were out hill-walking at the time. Perhaps it was just too much fo him?

Well, dumping his wife for a younger woman must have been the start of the slippery slope for him - maybe she was trying to wear him out?

Didn't like him much, but I appreciated the way he stood up to Blair about Iraq and packed his Cabinet job in on principle(although I doubt he was left destitute and signing on the dole)

He had a heart attack on a mountain top the tragic part bieng that they had no way of communicating with the outside world ..... his poor wife had to try and find someone to borrow a mobile phone to call for help. My heart goes out to her - she would have been (and will be for a long time to come) inconsolable and so frightened waiting for the helicopter.

Its just unbelievably tragic. A man who was very much loved by the people he served as an MP, and by all political parties as a man who stood proud of his principles to the very end. He will be missed, I am sure, greatly by all.
