Thread: EBay rip-off

  1. #1

    Default EBay rip-off

This reminds me of why I don't like eBay anymore - too many rip-off merchants.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...DME:L:RTQ:UK:1

I used 'ask seller a question' to ask "How do you justify charging £14.99 for a 4.7k resistor worth 5p?"
The reply came to my email "It is not a 4.7k resistor", but the question/answer has not appeared on the auction. If it not a 4.7k resistor it won't work the way he's claiming !!

This smart-ass has also kept Used ID's private, so no-one can warn buyers they are being ripped off !!!

    Vic.

no one forces anyone to bid....
If the cap doesn't fit, why choose to wear it?

Correct, but this guy is making sure people can't be warned, and eBay make it possible for him to do it.

don't you just mean he's not allowing you the pleasure of sabotaging his auction? Its a free market economy, if people want to buy that is their choice.

Folk could stand outside Dixons with a sign saying where people could source centrino chips for just $68 but really what good would it do?

Im sure yours is a legitimate concern but there are many mechanisms to protect consumers without us all engaging on spurious personal crusades or vendettas.

If ebay would pull the item for misrepresentation then you should perhaps tell them if they wouldn't then really you have no business interferering, in my opionion at least.

Not trying to sabotage the auction Charlie, just make people aware that it's a rip-off.

I could easily get all 277 of his auctions pulled, as he is using copyright/trademark images which he doesn't own.

Besides, with only one bid between 277 auctions, it's going to cost a lot more in fees than the £14.99 + £2.51 postage he's getting at the moment. - Silly really, they would probably all sell if they were £2.99 or so.

The copyright issue I'm with you on, just had a look and you're right that's unacceptable - i'd love to nick pics for my sales but it just aint on, but the money side, nah, if folk want to pay that is their business. (mind you grassing someone up for using a logo isn't exactly stylish either, IMHO)

In a free market economy - which on line selling is supposed to be, live 8 tickets aside - he should eventually get freezed out by other sellers selling cheaper, if there are no other sellers, he could, in fact, justify putting his prices up.

In reality there are only two reasons for commercial success, you either do something cheaper or you do it better, so if money isn't his issue maybe the chip (or whatever it is) is indeed better and is worth the extra dosh, the market will decide. or maybe he sends out copius handwritten instructions with his item in a lovely fur lined box(?)

Meantime, if you can do them cheaper, (or better) go ahead and list eh, you should clean up....

You are paying for the expert information there too.

On the subject of dodgy auctions, ebay do not remove them (except live 8 ones which may or may not have been dodgy), I have reported loads of pirate dvds and not a single one has ever been removed. I have even tried to email them, but they won't give a non-automated reply. I have given up.
