Thread: Ebay email spoofing

  1. #1

    Default Ebay email spoofing

I just got one reporting me for selling a '$500 Pep Boys Gift certificate'.

    What the hell is it?

Don't worry about any warning e-mails from eBay.

If they are genuine they will appear in your My Messages folder (or whatever it's called) when you log into your "My eBay" page.

Can't see how. eBay are the only ones who have access to put message into it.

I'm not sure how it's happened, but I have read a few posts where the "You have been outbid" scams have appeared there...

Yep, I think I see where that's coming from.

The "My Messages" folder will also show messages from other eBayers which are sent via eBays Contact Member system. These messages shouldn't look like they are coming from eBay (the company) itself because they will carry the user's own eBay-name.

It should only take mere moments for people to see where the message has come from and realise that it has nothing to do with eBay itself.

    IYSWIM.

But some people wouldn't know the difference, and those are the people the scammers are after.

There's no excuse for not knowing the difference. The messages in that folder will not look like ordinary emails. They'll start with somelike like "Message from eBay member".
