Thread: I thought ebid was free?

David, there is merit in what you say in that those looking to clear out the attic with low value items could and most likely will be put off. I agree that to make ebid vibrant ebid needs to make it as painless as possible. Perhaps a two tier membership might be the answer ie a business account with no restrictions £44.99 for life and a free private account with restrictions, like not being able to accept credit cards for payment etc.

Default If you're in any doubt!

    ebay

I’ve just completed two sales on ebay, one for 121.00 and 120.00 excluding delivery, total 241.00.

The fees for listing and FVF’s for these two items amount to £15.76.

The paypal fees amount to £9.55

    Total fees = £25.31

    Total sales £241.00

    Total fees £25.31

    Balance £216.69

    Ebid

    Lets do the same deal.

    Total sales = £241.00

    Total fees = £0.99

Merchant fees =£9.55 using paypal, much less if using pppay just £4.90 I’ve used paypal in both for continuity.

    Balance = £230.46

That’s a whopping £13.77 or if I’d used pppay £18.42 more in my pocket.

    Still need convincing?

Why are you listing on ebay then? Would you have sold those same things here? Would you have had the traffic that ebay has to look at those things here? I understand the maths, but I am worried about the flow of traffic and whether buyers come here or not.

I'll be listing here when my shipment of stock arrives.

I will still list on ebay even though it sticks in my throat, for the time being. It costs so little to list here that I will take advantage of the extra exposure and hope that by doing so, it will help this site in the proccess.

Nothing to loose and every thing to gain.

Me too...I'm a Power Seller over there, and rely on the turnover and exposure to keep myself/family alive...but here is a great site that is growing all the time...I like this place.

I haven't got much listed here right now (cos people keep buying my stuff! LOL!) but after the next promo day over there, I'm going to do a bit of juggling, shift some regular bits to here, start building my listings up again.

Good on you Rainbow, but as David say’s we need the private sellers to come here. Without them it will be a very long haul.

    That to me means –

    No fees for private members.*

A Turbo lister type interface making it child’s play for novices to list.

Some kind of Seller Manager, including stock control for business users.

*Private members will soon want to convert to paid up members, just like they do on the other side.

Better communication re the one off lifetime fee Showing the benefits of this against ebay.

Oh, I agree with all you say - I keep forgetting that I'm no longer a private seller! LOL!

And we need need need a decent bulk lister, would certainly make listing much more pleasurable!

Problem is: How would eBid monitor the private sellers? What happens if they switch from private to business (as I did)? What would be the determining factors?

That'd be a hard one for G&M to monitor IMO.... in theory you are no longer a private seller if you buy to resell.... so apart from monitoring all the auctions to make sure they are selling used items... I can't see any way they could do it.

It’s already done isn’t it? We already have Bronze and Silver members.

Bronze user, restricted = Private personal free member.

Silver unrestricted = Paid up Business or premium Private member.
    Simple init!

Ive benn a user I think for almost a year. I paid the security fee at the beginning. The auctions have all been free. Will I be charged for anything else?
